Sales of pickups begin to stall

02/24/2006, 7:52 AM

By admin

Half of full-size pickup models on the market saw sales decline in 2005, while nearly all experienced weak starts in early 2006, reports the Detroit News. The news is especially concerning because pickup customers represent a fiercely loyal customer base. Luckily pickup buyers — unlike some purchasers of large SUVs — actually need all that capacity. “For a lot of people, there’s really no substitute for a full-size pickup,” said Jack Nerad, executive editor of auto-buying guide Kelly Blue Book. Automakers aren’t giving up on pickups, either. Toyota recently revealed its 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup, Chrysler showed the Dodge Rampage Concept, Ford showed the F-250 Super Chief Concept, and Caddy’s 2007 Cadillac Escalade EXT broke cover in January.

“Luckily pickup buyers … actually need all that capacity”??

Only the ones with company names on the side.

I see plenty of pickups used as one-person commuter vehicles, but ready for that once-a-year gardening run they MIGHT need to make.
