Saturn announced today that the new 2007 Vue Green Line hybrid SUV will carry a starting price of $22,995 (including destination charge), making it the lowest-priced hybrid SUV on the market, according to GM. Vue Green Line will carry an EPA fuel economy rating of 27 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, which GM says is the best highway fuel economy of any SUV currently available.

Nice going GM! That should start to sell really fast, especially compared to the Ford Escape hybrid.

My 03 Toyota Matrix AWD is getting 32mpg (mostly interstate driving@70mph) is not a “hybrid” and has almost as much cargo room as the Saturn Vue and cost under $20k new.

Your 03 Matrix has about 9 cu ft. of max. cargo space less than the VUE, and that is a big difference. I own a Vibe and have spent plenty of time around a Vue. There’s not a really strong comparison between the two from a cargo comparison. The Vue is bigger.

Not to mention you are looking at a difference of about 45 hp (170 vs. 126). So, it is not a good comparison, regardless of how much you want to trash the Vue.

That said…I really do like my Vibe.

Look at this, a real hybrid by GM, not that fake bull**** they call the Silverado Hybrid. It’s only taken GM 6 years longer than toyota to introduce a hybrid to the market. But really, what do you expect from GM these days? Originality? Quality? I think not.

WHOOPEE…sorry, it’s not any different than the Silverado Hybrid. It is only classified as a mild hybrid. The electric portion of the vehicle does _nothing_ to propel the vehicle…that means the gasoline engine is running anytime it is moving for those of you who don’t know what mild hybrid means. The Escape, on the other hand, is a full hybrid. That means sitting still and up to speeds of 35mph the vehicle is propelled by the electric power only _not gas_. It gets 36 mpg city and 31 mpg highway in the FWD model.

The city milage is impressive, highway is good for an SUV. By comparison my 96 Lincoln Mark VIII also gets 32 on the highway and I have a very large trunk. :P I know one can not compare a car to SUV, but mine is no Geo, its a fricken 2-ton heavy cruiser with a billion luxury features and I still get great milage.

cool, show me Toyota’s dual mode hybrid system integrated into the transmission….

Just because they were the first to play the marketing game, doesn’t mean they are the end-all be-all of automotive technology.

and about GM NOT inventing the hybrid… pull your head out of your ass, look at commercial applications, and remember: if you close your mind off too much, you might start restricting bloodflow.

I still say that the new nose job sucks. I prefer the old design.
