Nascar Nextel Cup cars have nothing to do with stock production cars. The Somebody made a comment he “loves Nascar and his Dodge Stratus”. How ridiculous a comparison is this? One is a rear-wheel drive pushrod V-8 purpose-built race car, and the other a front-wheel drive V-6 family sedan. How can Nascar call itself a “stock-car racing series” when the dinosaurs they drive are not serially built?

Trans-Am series is actual stock car racing, because they drive modified Jaguars, Mustangs and other production cars. That, plus the fact it is run on road courses, not boring ovals, makes it a bit like the German Touring Car Championship (DTM).

I agree with Schumi on this one. Low-developed racecars, using carburetted 1960s-style engines and fake headlights, driving on a oval turning left 4x per lap can hardly be fun watching. About as exciting as watching cricket (or paint drying)……

I grew up watching F1. So sue me but, in concept, yeah ovals are of course less challenging, but what Schumi is refering to is that ovals being only left hand turns is the boring, not challenging enough aspect of it, he’s not saying that he would win em all if he were to participate. He’s not speaking out of arrogance guys, but fans like me just have to have our road courses to hold our interest. Why do some die hard NASCAR fans have to knock on open wheel saying that its too low tech. I just must obviously be REALLY STUPID!!! but when was the last time I saw a Nascar Nextel cup car with a fuel injected, pneumatic valve, 2.4L 750+ BHP V8? I guess i’m blind too. Alright, time for the Nascar fans to start swearing at me.

Any form of transportation that has a steering mechanism is designed to turn left and right.
Any form of transportation that has a breaking mechanism is designed to slow down and/or to stop in the moment the pilot or driver chooses or needs to.

Racing machines whether they be cars, motorbikes, aeroplanes, or boats are configured– if not designed– to perform better at turning (in both directions), accelerating and decelerating than their regular counterparts; and in order for those machines to do that, advanced technologies are developed and employed.

If NASCAR cars are indeed “not low tech”, what technologies then are used in them that we do not find in the design and manufacture of regular automobiles? Please educate us.

I know NASCAR isn’t really that low tech. But I am bothered by the fact I’m still watching heavy steel barges (/rant) go round a track. Cars on which car manufactures and sponsors spend huge sums of money every year to develop. Why hasn’t all that money made those cars perform like IndyCars with doors? IRL cars perform way better, because of their weight, aerodynamic package, sophisticated engine and so on.
I mean that is mainly why I prefer watching IRL over NASCAR if we’re talking about American racing.
I watch the Indy500 every year, and I know there’s also a NASCAR race to watch (Charlotte if I’m not mistaken) on the same day, but I usually can’t be bothered anymore after seeing those IndyCars.
I like DTM because those cars are like F1 cars with doors. DTM is as close as you can get with a ‘stock car’ to F1 performance.

Just another load of posts by 12 year old flaming potty mouths who have never been to any of these races.
Lets assume for a second that we are all adults, and all racing fans. If that was the case we would recognize the good and bad of both series. One isn’t really better than the other, just different and everyone has their preferences.
NASCAR cars are not low tech, if you think thats the case, you should get educated. They are heavier than F1 cars and are not allowed much downforce so they are dealing with very limited traction and are very slippery to drive. They deal with extreme aerodynamic issues vs. the F1 extreme downforce and little or no aero issues in traffic.
I prefer road racing and sports cars, but I appreciate the skill and endurance required to operate any type of auto at high speed.
All racing is good because it keeps the industry viable and keeps the dollars flowing to companies that support such things. We should all consider ourselves racing fan brothers instead of opponents.
We all ‘get it’ because we love horsepower and speed and competetion that comes from people using machines to push themselves to extreme limits.
If you like one better than the other thats cool the stupid F-this and F-that and NASCAR is easy and for rednecks is pretty lame. And in terms of fitness, I think the new generation of Cup drivers are not taking that for granted and appear to be pretty fit for the most part.
Lets also not forget that guys like Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Robby Gordon are accomplished drivers in several types of racing and cars and are well respected all over the world for it.

F1′s exciting. The best Technology on 4 wheels.

NASCAR is boring. Bunch of cars driving in circles for 200+ laps, and most of the drivers are not in shape, and that kinda tells you that NASCAR is not that demanding, like baseball. A 300lbs person plays Baseball and gets 10-20 millions a year…:S

F1′s like Basketball and Soccer (Demanding)

pjpj, nascar isnt a sport, neither is drifting. F1 takes physical endurance, tactical knowledge, and the will to win, and rally is even harder. i dont know what you consider a sport, but most think of a sport as an event that involves all of those. and moto gp i think is even more demanding.

Hay Timmy did you know south park made a character about you? Lets start with the fact that f1 is a top level racing series and those drivers are in excellent condition. But layoff, if driving NASCAR was so easy everybody would do it, make a couple million for just doing circles. all forms or racing have there difficulty’s but when was the last time you watch 43 cars change the lead in a 500 mile race over 50 time. When was the last time there were more than 5 lead changes in an f1 race? They are different forms of racing and require different strategies. If you think it takes no talent and it is easy enough for anyone to do it, they have driving schools, or just ride a longs if you’re too cheap. One thing that NASCAR has going for it is the fact that they are accessible and are giving of time and money, this is something unique with NASCAR where almost every one of the drivers, owners, and crews are going to bend over backwards to help when just about anyone needs them. I now Schumacher care allot during the tsunami but who else did, and what other charities are they taking care of when there is not such a big disaster? And not all of us watch for wrecks, it is bound to happen in any motor sport as they all push the equipment past there limits, that’s how the winner is decided.

Now, as for pit stops, it often does come down to tenths of a second. Especially further down the grid. That’s where a lot of the fun racing has been happening lately. Try paying attention during a race. Or, better yet, just keep your mouth shut. The boys in the white coats will come get you and take you away again. That’s a good boy.
