A remorseful member of the FT86 forum has posted photos his Scion FR-S after he drifted it into a power pole.

The 24 year old driver claims that it was his first crash. As the first person to crash a Scion FR-S in the States, the humiliation will help to ensure that it will be a crash that he is not going to forget in a hurry. Adding to the embarrassment, he was also issued with an infringement ticket by the police for failing to maintain proper control of a vehicle.

According to the driver (who remains anonymous), he was taking a right hand turn at about 20 mph when he jumped on the gas - the rest is apparently a blur. Before he knew what had happened he was kissing a power pole with both airbags having been deployed. He says that a coworker (who saw everything from the passenger seat) did not make contact with the airbag as he thinks he was only doing '15-20 mph at the impact.' He also added that he "˜couldn't believe how much the car just crumpled' given the apparent circumstances.

As for the FR-S in question, it looks repairable enough, but like any car it will never be the same after a crash. While the chassis doesn't look as though it has been too affected, the re-spray will ensure the car never looks quite right again even if it is an easier to match white. The paint finish on plastic bumpers are notoriously difficult to get right post-factory.

Let's hope it's a while before we see another one of these photos, although the combination of affordability and performance may help to ensure that it won't be long before another younger Scion FR-S owner comes unstuck. The rear-wheel drive FR-S is fitted with traction control that can be turned off, allowing drivers to take advantage of the 200hp on tap for some good old fashioned drifting - although drifting on public roads with their minimal room for error is not what Toyota had in mind.
