Well, to each their own but…. what the hell is with the monster wheels and racing brakes on a short wheelbase 100 horsepower gas miser???

With all that bling they had better be moving on bringing the small RWD Toyobaru and their MR2 hybrid car to the USA.

I was just going through their Japanese lineup for kicks. If they really wanted to impress with useful cars they could import the Probox, Town Ace Van, Ractis and replace the Avalon series with a duplicate of the current Crown sedan with the 3.5L and 2.5L engine options.

As for the styling of the iQ, it’s like a Smart. Many people like that but I wish Toyota offered a few conservatively styled cars. I’m aware that “conversative styling” in the USA is akin to a 1990’s Buick or Taurus but that’s not what I’m talking about. Look through the Japanese Toyota lineup (or Honda and Mitsubishi for that matter) and you’ll find that over there not only is there a lot of choice variety but there are many commuter and utility cars that are respectable little boxes that do not pretend to be boy racers or Humty Dumpty eggs.

The audacious and “aerodynamic” styling for economy cars in the USA that will never break 90mph is one of my biggest dislikes of them.

There are plenty of beautiful midsize, fullsize and sports cars but if I’m looking for an economy car I’d much prefer an unassuming box design from Japan. And no, the Scion xB, Nissan Cube, Kia Soul and Honda Element do not fit in this category. ALL of them are trying way too hard at something so easy.

Toyota does not know when to give up. Once you ruin something, you can’t fix it, or you can but it takes to long. Scion really can’t be saved, especially with crap like this! inspire, you are correct: It is not a mainstream car. But the same could be said about xA. Yet over 100K per year were sold. Smart is selling, and lets face it: Smart is not a better car. I bet you there were more Smarts sold in US last year then in all of Europe (300 vs 500 mils population), tiny streets, extremely expensive fuel.

Something tells me kids will be racing those before they race Kia/Hyundai. I can be wrong.

Looks better than a Smart car, and being Toyota it’s undoubtedly better built than one (even a Geely would be), but it’s still a lotta ugly on a little car. I realize it’s in show drag, but it’s just too overdone. Too bright, wheels too big, too much (and too busy) front bumper. It looks like some of those whacked-out Japanese custom things with bumpers that would embarrass a steam locomotive’s cowcatcher (or Megabyte from Reboot’s jaw).

I’m quite happy now that I’ve completely dissociated myself from this brand. Good idea to bring out a micro-car … but not for North America. People here are “big” — can’t fit inside. Only the urban areas will people flock to these cars. Oh … and of course the grown-up ‘tweens who think a Beetle or a Mini are played out.

It’s a definite niche car — I see great potential for this car in Asia, Europe or any place with high population density, limited parking space and high fuel prices. So this car will succeed anywhere … but North America. (People know it’s a Toyota that’s been rebadged to Scion — they’ll still buy it.)

PS This car is a concept — I doubt the rims or the fender flares will make it to the production model. Flares will make parallel parking difficult and the rims easy to curb / make the ride so harsh since the tires have barely any sidewall…

It has bulldog’s under bite. I like bulldogs, I know that my taste is not shared by everyone. It looks good for a small car. I hope there will be version with 3 pedals and for a change interior looks good. Without that center piece speedometer and whatever else cluster. I think it weighs below Lotus Elise, and although it has not the same engine with 3 pedals it can be propelled along just fine.

Actually, the styling isn’t too bad… it’s very focused on a specific market niche, and I doubt it’ll appeal beyond it too much. I give Toyota credit for doing something different, something besides a Smart car, Mini Cooper, or Nissan Cube knockoff.

RaineMan- or a Versa. I think I’d take that over a Kia. Anyways, I actually think this could be a hit with teens/20-somethings. Especially modders. It doesn’t look too ridiculous (unlike the Smart). If it pushes $15k though I can’t see anyone wanting this. I’d take a stripped down Civic before a $15k iQ.
