While the sexy and sporty new FR-S has been garnering all the headlines for Toyota's youth-oriented brand, the carmaker's previous flagship, the tC, has just received another special, Release Series. Dubbed tC Release Series 8.0, or tC RS 8.0, only 2,000 examples of the specially-equipped coupe will be made.

All examples will come only in the Absolutely Red paint offset by gloss black side view mirrors and black 18-inch wheels. The signature feature is the five-piece body kit that was inspired by the designs of Troy Sumitomo from body kit designer Five Axis. The exhaust exits through the center of the car thanks to a unique rectangular tip and a Toyota Racing Development (TRD) muffler. There are also TRD lowering springs dropping the car over those 18-inch alloys.

The interior gets a textured black fabric with red stitching on the seats, along with the leather-wrapped steering wheel. RS 8.0 badges are found throughout the interior, and a numbered plaque shows off which number in the limited series is owned.

The car arrives in dealerships later in July, priced at $22,545 for the six-speed manual and $23,595 when paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic is unique in the tC range in that it's paired with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The price includes a $730 delivery fee.

About a year ago, Scion outed the Release Edition 7.0 of the tC that came only in yellow.
