Hatchback

Scion prices new xD

Scion’s newest model, the xD, will be priced at $14,550 when it goes on sale in August. That’s a fairly substantial $1150 more than the xA, the model the new xD replaces.

The ‘07 xA started at $13,400 and, like the xD, it offered an automatic transmission for $800. The xD is about the same size as the outgoing model, but it features styling more akin to the boxy xB. The xA never met the sales success of its boxier brother, so Scion is hoping that the new model will provide the visual link to the best known Scion.

Scion also released fuel economy figures for the xD: 27/33 for a manual and 26/32 for the automatic. These figures are based on the EPA’s new testing procedures, but they should stack up about the same as the outgoing xA.

Wow $1150 more than the last model. If you can’t afford that, you need to donate plasma until you have enough money to buy a boomstick at S-mart and blow your head off, and quit breathing my air.

That’s a substantial increase for the people in that market but the Scions have been surprisingly well built do they shouldn’t be able to complain.

I like what toyota has done with scion. they know who they want to sell the car to, and what they can pay.

doesn’t talk about the engine, but i’m assuming its a 1.5

Not my kind of car, I’m a grown-ass man, but there are those …

It’s a Yaris 5-door. And people wanna talk to GM about cheap badge engineering?

I don’t think that’s gonna have the new xB mill..its economy is way down.

jjturkey is right.. the article is pretty misleading in withholding information about the xD engine, inferring that the new model is similar in size and mileage to the xA, and all that changed is the styling. The article neglects to mention that the extra $1150 gets you a substantially larger engine compared to the xA and Yaris (1.8 vs 1.5) yet yields similar economy. I’m no Toyota fan, but I had to point out that this article is factually lacking.

I think the honda Fit is much better looking personally & they cost pretty much the same.

One word: FUGLY!!! A Fit would probably think it’s an Aston Martin or Ferrari when parked next to this. Cars this ugly make all the normal cars suddenly look beautiful in comparison.

The fact that these things sell is proof of how many idiots there are in the world.

Compared to the tC and the new xB, the xD will still be the runt of the litter. For the money, the tC goes toe-to-toe with the Honda Civic Coupe. The new xB addresses most of the shortcomings of the old model (lack of power, more space). The xD is left to battle against Hyundai, Kia, and the rest of the Koreans nipping on Toyota’s heals. It barely does better than the Fit, but the Fit is now 7 years old and will be redesigned soon.
Hate to say it but I think the xD will be a bigger bomb than the xA. :(
