Scion xB Release Series 7.0 revealed

12/01/2009, 5:57 PM

By Nick Aziz

Scion will showcase a new special edition xB hatchback at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. Called the Release Series 7.0, the car features a unique exterior color scheme, a matching interior, and a dramatic body kit.

The aggressively sculpted front and rear aprons are sourced from Japanese tuner DAMD. The only available color is Murasaki, which happens to be the Japanese word for purple.

The interior follows the color scheme with black upholstery featuring purple-blue insets, RS (Release Series) badging, and a leather-wrapped RAZO GT Formula Spec shifter.

There are three wheel designs to choose from and the large rear spoiler is also optional. Low-riding TRD springs and a sportier exhaust system are standard.

Pricing starts at $18,320 with a manual transmission and $19,270 with an automatic (plus a $670 destination charge). Availability begins this month.

Lipstick on a pig? For $20k – they couldn’t throw in some cheap alloys either?

Can I get one with the tie wrapped floor mats and the rusting frame?

They are just wasting money on Scion. If your losing money out the a$$, get rid of pointless, slow selling stuff.

@Austin. I would rather have mine with that problematic throttle system the LA Times found out about. On second thought, maybe not. I don’t think I want to die in a purple box. LMAO.

Seems to be very popular with a lot retirees. The vehicle was utilitarian to begin with, and has been touted as an entry level DIY customizable box. Who would have known a box would have become so popular?

I can’t stand this car! I can’t stand when I’m behind one and I see that single back-up light! I wish someone would give me a nuke so I could obliterate their factory!

its up to version 7.0 now? it took that many versions for a boxy car? really?

Why are all the special version scions just keep on getting more ghetto with every new version. You would think, this would be the most ghetto version. But, version 8.0 comes out. Even more ghetto. Pretty soon it will have 24 in. rims with green tinted windows.
Vanilla Ice should be Scion’s new spokes person.

7.0 should be the displacement of the engine! On second thought, maybe that’s such a good idea until this throttle/sudden acceleration thing gets resolved.

‘that’s NOT such a good idea’ yeesh

definitely would not want people to put a 7 liter in a box, the wheels would fall off.

The last time I saw a box that purple I think Hendrix was on the radio and there were at least a couple of black lights providing the only sources of illumination.

It’s tC there bud… and yeah its a descent car to drive for the price, but an update is necessary. or they can just dump scion.

such terrible cars. Since its a division of Toyota it wont be long before we hear about these things having defective throttles Just think how embarrassing it would be to literally be caught dead in a scion. What a sad way to go.

Is this 7.0 series thing supposed to be a classic 25 years from now, or a classic failure 25 seconds from release?
