Mr. Glickenhaus,

I saw you for the first time last night on HD Theaters, World's Most Expensive Cars. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of some of your collection today on the internet and I came upon this site. I can’t tell you how great it is to see you actively talking about your love for cars and answering questions for fellow car lovers. I was blown away! It is not everyday that you see an elite car collector, celebrity, or wealthy individual caring what other people think. Thank you once again for taking your time to talk and explain your love for your cars, it’s truly amazing I am astonished and appreciative of your generosity.

THANK YOU!!!

On Mr. James G's first comment, I doubted whether it was the real person or not.

However, the rest of the post easily removed the doubt from my mind... congrats Mr. G, great car.... I myself am on my second Mercedes (a 2007 SLK, no less), which is also my 5th car. I hope to get a Ferrari in the (hopefully, not-too-distant) future.

May I ask what films you have been involved in?

Thanks,
shahedC

Evo 098, Gordon Murray:

"How many of our today's cars will be considered classics in, say, 20 or 30 years' time?

One that will be is the brand-new Pininfarina-designed one-off Ferrari P4/5 supercar, based on a Ferrari Enzo. All supercars have presence and a certain "dramatic" look, but not all of them have style. The Enzo is certainly dramatic, but it manages to look very large (it is!) and very disjointed - the lines just don't flow. Panel shut gaps are too big and obvious, the front overhang is just too long, and the whole effect is styling rather than style.

Enter the P4/5 - a truly beautiful, balanced shape. I'm sure Pininfarina will have the "retro" finger pointed at them, but while there's no mistaking its heritage, the style is crisp, fresh and bang up to date. This is not a sycophantic exercise like the Ford GT but very much a new design in its own right. If I was offered the keys to either the Enzo or the P4/5, I know which one I would be driving home."

Hi

Firstly I am very interested in all of your opinions and thank all of you for them.
I am extremely lucky to be able to do what I do and I realize it. I have the utmost respect for anyone who has a car they cherish and drives it with one that they love. If I couldn't afford cars such as I can I'd buy a rusted Frog Eyed Sprite or an old Corvette
restore it with my hands and drive it on the same roads with the same family I do. That is worth something, the rest really isn't. In yesterdays Wall Street Journal there was an article about a woman in Hong Kong who paid 15 million dollars for dancing lessons so as you can see what something is worth means different things to different people and the only way to know at any point in time what something is really worth is by auction. That said once again as I never sell cars that I love what they may be worth some day is not something I really care about. There is an enormous amount of work, engineering, and talent that Pininfarina put into this car to build my dream. In my opinion this was not very profitable for them. It was and hopefully will be again an important part of what they do and who they are and that's why they did it. This is a lot more than a show car. It is a fully engineered, world wide legal, full serviceable, fully technically supported world wide indefinatly, fully supported spares program, and in the end a fully blessed by Ferrari One of One that is now carried in the Factory records as FERRARI P 4/5 by PININFARINA.
I shudder to think what this car might sell for in 50 years should my Grand Kids decide that they no longer Love it as I do.

As for how Ferrari came to bless this car in the latest Car and Driver Ted West goes into this in detail and I think he got it right. The short answer is that upon finally seeing the car they liked it and felt that it deserved to wear their badge. They have fully embraced the car and are offering full technical support to Pininfarina and stand by to provide any parts or technical assistance I may need. The parts and service manuals are available to any Ferrari Dealer world wide and any of them can fully service the car should I need it.

In the beginning, before they saw the car it was as Ted noted: "After-School Sports, Italian-Style" but in the end as he wrote:

"Maranello welcomed this unique car into the fold as a fully badged Ferrari. Under the skin, of course its VIN is indisputably a Ferrari Enzo's. When a kid puts a wing on his Subaru, it's still a Subaru-ditto the P 4/5.

But it's always best when everyone, especially Ferrari, smiles, shakes hands, and they all go off to the seashore."

Hi

Form does follow function and I believe that design that enables a car to function while not always classically beautiful will always stand the test of time. It's much as The Bard said:

"Something wicked this way comes..."

In addition to paying Homage to the P 3/4/512s/312P/
and 333sp if you look closely at the head light V of LED's of P 4/5 you'll see a Homage to the car that recently won Le Mans The Audi R10. Designers often do things like this. The new Ford GT pays homage to the P4 with a similar crease at the top of the fender line which of course was not on the original MKI. When Jason and I saw the R 10 still unpainted in black we both were blown away and wanted to tip our hats to it as we both felt it was definitely going to stand tall at Le Mans.

Strats... When I was 12 (1962) I took my summer job earnings and went to Mannys Music Store and laid down $85. for a Sun Burst Strat with 3 Humbuckers which of course I still have and play. 44 years of Rock and Roll have left a nick or two but when I plug her in and crank the know to 11 she still sings.

When ever I drive any car I always find things I'd like to change. Mainly the things I'd change are things that I think would make a car more usable.
As wonderful as a Lamborghini Murcielago looks and drives I think a usable glove box would make it something my wife would agree to ride with me in more often.

Modern cars from Ferrari are great cars and having driven them when a defroster was a cloth. (I put 65K miles on my 275 GTB 6c in the rain and occasionally in the snow I really appreciate how far these cars have come. The 599 is a great front engined GT car that you can use every day. The F 430 is a tight/toss able/
sports car that will make you smile. Modern Lamborghini's still make you say WOW and are great drivers as well but all of them left me wanting something a bit different and that is why I commissioned P 4/5. Instead of complaining I wanted to see if what I wanted and dreamed about could be built...

Comments on the Ferrari 599GTB and Ferrari F430 please Mr. Glickenhaus. I am sure you can afford both of these nice machines so I am sure you had the opportunity to test drive the latest Ferrari range. How does it compare to the P4/5?

This is a very interesting design study. It is far more impressive in performance for me than appearance though. The front and 3/4 views are nice enough but don't break a lot of new ground. The rear view disappoints though. But, as they say, 'form follows function' and with that in mind here, the sum is indeed greater than it's parts.
Some inspiration may be taken from this car to coming Ferrari's though as Ferrari could use a little forward thinking in the area of style these days. (An exception might be the new Superamerica which is a stunning car in both performance and style.)
Mr. Glickenhaus your are to be commended for bending convention. I would like to see you take this same philosophy to a motorcycle.

Hello everyone. Yes James We at Audi AG do belive strongly in filtering down our Motorsport technology to our production cars truely showcasing the 'vorsprung durch technik' Gesinnung. Unfortunately I am required in official capacities throughout the Paris show J so am unsure if I will have time to spectate the P4/5. Dankeschön for the praise of Audi it is reciprocated of your P4/5.

To poster 'Letta' I believe our Amerikan Diesel strategem is discussed by my Collegue Audi of Amerika Executive VP Johan de Nysschen on the website www.Audiworld.com for further information.

It is a beautiful car, any car lover can appreciate.
My question, Mr. Glickhaus is would you commission Ferrari to build anything similar for production or will to work with any other auto makers to build any other types of super cars?

P.S. Tell Dr. Winterkorn to push AUDI to bring the turbo Diesel and diesel technology to America, it would definitely help their presents in America as the sport and premium brand that they are.

Beautiful car. That's how it (Enzo) should have looked in the first place. The Enzo is mean looking for sure, but what has happened to Pinninfarina? They used to design sleek, sexy cars but the Enzo is too angular, especially after a beauty like the F-50. My question to Mr. Jim Glickenhaus is if the original P4 was designed by Pinninfarina or Scaglietti, as the latter coachwork builder made the most beautiful Ferrari's of all time, 250 GTO, 250 LM, 59 TR, etc...
You should tour the US auto shows with both!

I do agree with your point in general but still feel that the in the context it's use was necessary to attempt to make the point that personal racist insults
such as the one directed at me IMO reflect poorly on the one's hurling them and because of that don't bother me and that I've had worse ones hurled at me over the years.

When I first saw the images of this car, I thought it was ugly, but these pictures really changed my mind. I would love to see this in person. This strike me as a car that looks much better in person. If only I could make it to Pebble.

Hi

Except for the windscreen which is glass the greenhouse is polycarbonate which cannot be photo voltaic. The entire greenhouse is ultra VU filtered and the AC is entirely redone and enhanced via "ram air" ducts in the nose and on a VERY hot day in BRIGHT sun the cabin stays very cool without glare.

The cost to produce a new street legal platform and there is NO way that the FXX engine and chassis could be made street legal we looked into it, is 40 to 50 Million US dollars. That is why one of one's will probably have to use existing legal chassis and engines if one wants them to be street legal like
P 4/5.
