Sell a 250MPG car, get $25 million

The Ansari X Prize Foundation — which offered $10 million for the first non-government manned space flight — has turned its attention for cars. The group is offering a $25 million prize for the first organization to sell 10,000 cars with 250MPG.”The current paradigm is that it’s perfectly acceptable to drive a car that only gets 20 or 30 miles per gallon. This prize is about leveraging cash and opportunity to effect positive change in the environment, economy and geopolitics,” said Mark Goodstein. Goodstein said rules were still being worked out, and more information would be released soon.

omg that would be so cool. Maybe a 2 seater hardtop all aluminum with less drag coefficient. maybe try out that quasiturbine engine. Or a turbo desiel flat 2 powered engine hybrid with direct injection. 250 mpg is a lot though………… .>_>

VW has produced a car capable of getting 235MPG already, back in 2002. So high MPG is possible. A Toyota Prius can get near this once a stack of batteries is loaded in the back, nearly eliminating the use of the engine. But the rules will probably be written such that a hacked Prius won’t be eligible.
