Chevrolet focused its SEMA presence this year on modified versions of its Cobalt SS coupe. Nearly 30 percent of buyers intend to modify their Cobalt SS, according to the Foresight Research 2005 Chevrolet Halo study, so it’s no surprise Chevrolet had five Cobalts on display. On display were the 500hp Cobalt Phase5 Drag Racer, the Cobalt SS Coupe Open Air, the Cobalt SS Time Attack (seen right) and a Wide Body configuration of the Cobalt SS. In addition, GM Accessories displayed a 2006 Cobalt with a soon-to-be-released ground effects kit, rear spoiler and body-colored wiper arms. A Bob Mull customized Cobalt SS also will be featured. Chevrolet was quick to point out that the stock 265hp Cobalt SS Supercharged offers “guilt-free performance” with an EPA fuel economy rating of 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. Meanwhile, it was reported that GM Performance Parts will offer two bolt-on boost ECOTEC mods that will be available at dealerships in early 2006.
