SEMA 2009: Hyundai Genesis Coupes take stage

11/03/2009, 6:16 PM

By Andrew Ganz

At the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Hyundai partnered with a handful of selected aftermarket tuners to show the possibilities available to owners of the Genesis Coupe.

The cars shown were developed in conjunction with GReddy and Hennessey, two of Hyundai’s preferred tuning outlets.

“Each year, we fill our SEMA display with the most exciting custom cars through a partnership with the aftermarket to create even more options for Hyundai owners,” said Michael Deitz, manager, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “This year, we chose to again showcase the rear-wheel drive Genesis platform which has tremendous enthusiast appeal and a growing allegiance in the tuner space.”

Hennessey Genesis Carbon Coupe
The matte black coupe cranks out 500 horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque, enough to push the light-weight car to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, according to Hyundai. A Hennessey Custom Single Turbo System with a precision 66 mm ball bearing turbocharger, Tial blow off valve and HKS boost controller, among other upgrades, offer the substantial performance upgrade.

GReddy X-Gen Street Genesis Coupe
GReddy says that Genesis Coupe buyers will now be able to buy performance parts specifically made for their cars by the import tuning specialists.

The show car featured the GReddy Total Tune Up package, which boosts power to 350 horsepower and 320 lb-ft. of torque in addition to the cosmetic upgrades.

Hennessey is really amazing at producing monster cars…. 3.9s 0-60….that’s 911 turbo territory.

Greddy has to be the only aftermarket tuner that can slap decals all over their cars and make it look cool.

RICER is a term for people who put stuff on their car w/o knowing how it would actually affect the car, performance or look. e.g. Ford Mustang with fake hood scoops.

All these aftermarket producers mentioned in the article are FAR from being a ricer. Their products actually work for the better, unlike all the scoops on the Ford Mustang.

Soravia, +1

As for me, Why go out with fake carbon fiber graphics on the whole car??? Looks bad imo!!
Subtract all those graphics from the white one and it will look AMAZING!!

Welcome to the world of the Rice Burner Hyundai Genesis Coupe. I think it looks really good as a tuner. Speaking of which. I wonder how easy it is to tune this one up.

Soravia – I have never ever heard of anyone calling a person that puts fake scoops on a Mustang a RICER… Any time I have ever hear that term is when there is a so called souped up import kicking around. A Mustang with fake scoops is just flat out stupid.

Ricer = performance poser (import AND domestic, although it did start with imports first, but domestics are catching on)

Performancer car from Asia is NOT a ricer. People who automatically deem Asian cars as ricers is just flat out racist/ ignorant.
