Shebly Autos will unveil a new Shelby Series 2 sports car at the 2006 Concorso Italiano, August 18th, 2006, insiders say. The car will sell for over $200,000 and have a 400+ hp engine, but most units have already been pre-ordered. The car is the successor to the Shelby Series 1 (pictured). We’ll keep you posted as more details become available.

Thank God for Carroll Shelby. Here’s hoping he builds phenomenal Series 3’s and 4’s and many other cars while he’s still with us.

Specs? Engine?
The last one was a Northstar if I recall. And unfortunately, this thing did not do favorably in the reviews. Pretty sharp looking though.

I wonder how this one will work out. The Series one was a DISASTER. People were getting them 4 years late and they really didn’t perform that well considering everything that they customers had to go through. If I had the money, I would deffinately NOT pre order one.

Only good thing about this is the Oldsmobile engine under the hood. Buy a Cobalt SS if you want a real car though

Why would I want to buy a 400hp car costing over $200,000? Is the interior/handling amazing?
I could get 2 Corvette Z06 for that, and a decent SUV or something for that kind of money. hell, I could get the (rumored) 600HP blue devil corvette, and a Z06.
Don’t know enough about American cars, please educate me here!!

No, I think it looks awful too, but I figure it must have something special for $200k.
What am I missing here?

OVERPRICED! Just because it’s a “Shelby.” F that. In $200k territory I want my car to have a much higher sports pedigree. Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, just to name a few. Give me the new 997 Turbo black on black and 50K in pocket change.

still confused, this is a car blog, so i assume there are some car people on here somewhere? The car pictured is the series ONE, not the car thats going to debute. In regards to the series ONE, disaster is nice word to describe it. Remember the lawsuits by the people who were charged more because they pre-ordered or something like that? Remember that it looked like it was designed in the late 80’s? wait, just scroll up and look yes, late 80’s thats it. I don’t know carrol personally, so nothing personal but people give him way to much credit, it’s not like he designed the cobra, he shoehorned a big engine into a car built and designed in europe. Sure he connected the dots between horsepower and weight, but i’ll pass on making him a demigod.

from what i remember they could get over the emissions mountain. and once they did the performance was behind the cruve. its a good looking car and i think they had a s/c version also. i believe they were ~100k

i suppose i’m the only person in the forum that likes the car. they do handle very well; they worked out all of the hinks from the previous model….built in the 60’s. no trunk though…strictly an afternoon out kind of car.

#13.. dont fool yourself, carrols contribution to the cobra concept was little more than head nodding and agreeing with what he was told. That concept, was a disaster as well, rated lowest among concepts presented that year and is now collecting dust. If shelby was going to base series 2 on a concept, the GR1 would be the best choice. It’s more shelby than the cobra concept is… unfortunatly unless he fired everyone involved with the Series One, i think Series Two will be as pathetic… talk about ruining a dynasty and name in the last years of your life.

200k is ridiculous for this spec. 400hp is certainly nothing to sneeze at in terms of peak output, at any level, but it ceases to be a sales point beyond ~100k. Not when a 911 turbo runs 480 hp with variable-vane turbos and complex 4wd hardware allowing unbeatable usable-speed acceleration with an AUTOMATIC for ~125k.
I want to head-off corvette comparisons. It isn’t fair given the sbc is so old and has such a loyal following and considering all the different ways gm can figure ways to offset the costs of a ‘vette. I think the 911 ought to be a measuring stick, because it is RELATIVELY affordable, but few would call it compromised (I mean in terms of build and execution, not the flawed rear-engine placement most of us agree is almost laughable), the way one might easily lambast the interior quality of the corvette.
People buy ferraris in spite of their low hp/dollar. when the f355 quit, it had 380 hp to the corvette’s 345. The 360m only had 400, the current f430 has ~490 while a corvette with more can be had for roughly a 3rd to a 4th of the cost. The vette is an outlier bargain, not the appreciated median.
That’s not to say the car may be sellable when it arrives. The first Pagani Zondas had merely(!) 420 hp, but they were never a joke because they were simply so special in other ways. Of course, when the S came out with 550 hp from the larger 7.3L v12, and for only another 50k more (remember, the first zonda c12’s were already $300k+!), they never sold another standard model again.
