The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport recently unseated the Shelby SuperCars Ultimate Aero as the world’s fastest production car, but the Washington-based supercar maker has indicated the Super Sport won’t hold that title for long.

Although no official announcement has been made, SSC has indicated it is working on a new model that will likely trump the Super Sport’s top end. “We’ve been working on a new project to debut before the end of the summer. Not much can be said at this time except that we’ll be upping the ante on all fronts,” the automaker said in a statement.

SSC continued: “We would like to congratulate Bugatti . When the Ultimate Aero broke the record in 2007, we knew it was just a matter of time until it was broken by someone else.”

The Ultimate Aero took the top speed title from the Veyron in 2007 – posting an average top speed of 255.83mph – but the Super Sport reclaimed the throne for the Veyron nameplate with a record-setting run of 267.91mph.

With the end of summer now in sight, expect to hear more on the subject in the coming weeks.
