But honestly i dont think it will outrun the ZR1, while the older GT500KR couldn’t outrun the Z06, how can a SS outrun the ZR1? Just can’t be (THEORETICALLY), as someone before said, TIME WILL TELL, but im still a little bit scepticall, although i want that this beast is respectivelly at the same level, if that so it would be great, but anyway i dont give a damn how it performs against a ZR1, because i’m willing to have one, if not this year, but definatelly next year as i will buy in the same time the GT500 convertible for 51.000€ + 33,500 € = ~85.000 € for a SS, great deal for me.

I’m not a racer and i’m not willing to race, i just want to be as someone said, a poser, if someone will want to race in the highway, i will push the gas pedal to its limit to unleash all 725 ponyes out of SS and outrun the challenging car, and thats all. I just want it to go fast in the straight line!

3. I had a 250 lb passenger, he was solo
4. My car is a 2007 C6 corvette (non-z06) with some mods at 400 RWHP and 400 RWTQ.
5. My car has run a best of 11.73@121 MPH on the drag strip with drag radials.

The car ran better than I thought it would being that it is so heavy, but still will have trouble at the drag strip getting off the line…(weight will kill the 0-60 time)

The super snake will be a very nice package, with a lot of amenities, but will still have problems with wieght. If that car gets anywhere near 10′s in stock form I would be really surprised. NO WAY IN THE 9′s.

I am not a Ford Fan, but I own Ford stock, simply as they are running their business better. I dont like the ford cars, but that is personal opinion. My opinion is that chevy makes a better overall car. .

But, the ford GT500 will NOT obliterate a Z06 or a ZR1 in the 1/4 mile, unless you put a pro driver in the ford and a rookie in the vette. Sorry, but not gonna happen. I go to the drag strip too much and actually drive cars.

To compare the base 2010 Shelby 500 GT to the ZR1 is just dumb. The Ford GT vs the ZR1…sure…much better comparison.

The Shelby GT500 to the Z06….fairly close, but the Z06 will win out.

And remember, by no means am I putting down the GT500…it is a cool car and respectably fast…but would still rather have a vette that looks better (IMHO) and gets better gas mileage, and runs the same or better for the same price.

Needless to say, all the speculation in the world means nothing. Just wait and see how the SS performs compared to the Z06/ZR1, etc. I just happen to believe that my specualtions are a bit more acurate than yours.

I will say that the 427 is one noisy little bastard. It’s the noisiest of the Cobras. But it’s still a work of art in my book.

This is one badass Mustang. I was told by my news department that if I get the contacts to do an interview, I can go shoot the story at the Shelby place with our reporter. I’m excited. Hopefully, I can see this thing in the works, or maybe even go for a ride. Last time I went out there, they gave me a ride in a remade 427 Cobra and a Series 1. The Cobra ride was just around the regular driving area and parking lots, but the Series 1 ride was on the Super Speedway (the Shelby building is located at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway). It was a blast, but I couldn’t bring my camera on the rides because of the fact that both cars were topless, and my camera was 14 pounds. That kind of weight gets really heavy when people drive fast. This time, though my camera is less than 6 pounds, and the Mustang is not topless.

And how does calling a salesman out on a total lie make someone a loser and POS? I would have laughed in that guys face and walked off the lot if he told me a stock Civic did 0-60 in 4 something seconds! The salesman is the POS for either not knowing his own car or lying to a customer.

The Mustang is the Mustang, it’s an old school pony car, love it or don’t. It was the only pony car to survive the 70′s (Besides the Camaro/Firebird which got killed) and has been so succesful that Chevy and Dodge felt compelled to bring back retro versions of the Camaro and Challenger to offer us an alternative. I LIKE it’s old technology that everyone loves to make fun of. If you want an AWD sports car with lots of power, Subaru might have something for ya. The point I and Tornado were making is the Mustang shouldn’t try to be everything to everyone, and you can have all the AWD Mustang fantasies you want, and write all the letters to Ford you want, it ain’t gonna happen.

The Z06 is STILL a better car and costs less. Plus, you don’t have to worry about the ox cars suspension or spark plugs being blown out of the head.

The ZR1 is a downright beastly SPORTSCAR designed to handle the toughest corners and go fast while doing it. The Shelby SS is one bad mofo MUSCLE CAR designed to go fast as hell and handle enough to theoretically not kill yourself. They just simply arent designed to do the same thing. Being American FR V8s is about all they have in common and you really can’t make a fair comparison of the two.

That being said, this is one sick looking Shelby…if they could do something about those terrible tail lights I’d call that one of the best looking cars out this year.

I think your numbers are VERY off, but I will use them to prove my point.

Power, weight and distribution of said weight, drag coefficient(aerodynamics), traction(drive type FWD/RWD/AWD AND wheels/tires), transmission/gearing, cooling/ventilation, as well as other factors ALL contribute to the cars overall performace.

The Bugatti is Mid-engine, AWD, with a 48/52 weight distribution, a drag coefficient of around 0.30 and a 7-speed automated manual.
Mustang is Front-engine, RWD, with 58/42 weight distribution, a drag coefficient of around .35 and a 6-speed convnetional manual.

Newton, father of physics, says there is no chance this car will be that fast.

I’m not sure who or what Ford benchmarks when making these kinds of cars but whoever it is, it isn’t working. In fact, I don’t think they can benchmark a car like this because there is nothing like it and for good reason.

The success of the last gen GT500 KR should have been indicative of this cars success. That car was hyped up big time and was as fast as a Corvette Z51. That is pathetic because that too cost $80,000 while the Vette was $60,000. Chevy does quite well have the Camaro AND the Vette and Chrysler does well having the Challenger AND the Viper. Ford is trying to take the Mustang and have it compete at a $22,000 V6 level (V6 Camaro/V6 Challenger), $32,000 V8 level (SS/RT/SRT-8), $50,000 Vette level, and $80,000 Z06/Viper level.

Just plain silly if you ask me. It seems like instead of taking the time and cost in R&D of a new car, they are just being lazy and cheap and jacking up a perfectly good car in it’s original form.

That BANKRUPTCY2009 is why Ford isn’t doing well, not because of the GT or Thunderbird but this “corner cutting” philosophy that American cars have used for many years.

This even ignores the fact that the Veyron is AWD and has a dual clutch automated manual that shifts in less than 8 milliseonds. The Mustang is RWD with a conventional manual. There is NO chance that this Mustang will break 10.5 let alone 11. I would be FLOORED if the GT500 SS does the 1320 in 11.0 seconds. The Veyrons tires are nearly as wide as the Mustangs are tall as well. Not to mention the drag coefficient of each cars. The Mustang is not designed to be fast but be powerful. VERY DIFFERENT. An F-350 Super Duty Diesel is VERY powerful, but not fast.

Again I will say that power means nothing without control. I told you to write that down. 725 hp to the rear wheels with 295 series tires and a conventional 6-speed don’t equal 1001 hp to all wheels with 355 series tires and a dual clutch automated manaul.

This car will be a competitor for the Z06 as it is roughly the same price and will MOST LIKELY have the samer perforamce.

They concentrated on stupid niche vehicles like those and let the rest of their product go into the Toilet! AM I being clear to you. GOOD! Stop asking Ford bring that back or something even dumber like the Indigo alright. IF Ford was doing so well they could afford to put a Niche vehicle (Odd Ball) then fine- that is their perogative if they feel they can grow the business after first showing the investors the company is turning a profit. If they can’t do that then they don’t belong come out with garbage like that.
Furthermore, this was also a reason Investors were absolutely Livid and SCREAMING AT FORD’d breft of reason Managment ok.

Now that brings us to the current day and age . Since Mullaly was hired as CEO They have made sound decisions with the cost structuring and alike. Bill Ford did’nt know what to do. Mullaly so far the BOEING EX CEO has taken Ford in the basic steps needed to be done for the good of the company.
. Going back to the GT that cost $150,000 + a copy is Niether a smart move nor the direction the company should be headed in.

Also 2WheeledSpeed this is the turn the century not the 1960′s today’s performance car in the future will be measure with an AWD. AWD is superior to either a RWD or a FWD drive system.

The laws of inertia and Physics favor 4 wheels not only pulling you forward but allow far more stability and control. There is absolutely nothing that can compare to the 4 wheel system of the GT-R or the Veyron.
A GOOD LESSON TO BE LEARN is a comparison of all Top Performance cars on one of the twistiest roads of california and what is absolute laughable is how the highly touted Audi R8 was sliding off the road all the time and was being swallowed up by the GT-R the Porsche 911 is in the mix and had the Corvette ZR-1 been there it certainly would have shared the same fate as the Audi R8 and slide off the road for you Chevy boys that think other think again your POS does not have AWD and can’t compensate for slippage on the twisties.

Purely my opinion however.

You have Ford making all the technological improvements of which GM has none. But GM is up to the same old game of Stuff as Much HP in any car it has and it will sell. ok well Ford along with truely being greener with the Escape and Fusion Hybrids not a Wannabe- Fake Hybrid in a Chevy Malibu Yuck.

Should up the HP ever so slightly but add the AWD to the Mustang, even make a Hybrid Mustang, Lighten it, and Add the awesome DDCT and make it a 8 or 10 spd. I think what we need.

Anyways, back to the actual topic of the article… I love the Mustang, I love Shelby, and I LOVE Shelby Mustangs. But if Ford wants a super car I think they should bring back the GT, makes more sense to me at least. Nice car though, to each his own.
