Should BMW’s next Z8/Z6 look like this?

08/02/2006, 12:06 PM

By admin

The U.K.’s Car magazine has put together an interesting illustration of the next-generation BMW Z6/Z8. As previously reported, the car is expected to directly rival the Mercedes SL-Class. It will be slightly longer than the SL, with increased storage space. Like the SL, it will have a retractable hardtop roof. The oof may have variochromatic glass which can transform from near-dark to near-translucent, just like in the Ferrari Superamerica, the magazine says. [Illustrations: Front View, Rear View].

^^^ I would bet the Bimmer would be the nicer driver.

Have you ever seen the complexity of an SL’s top. Holy shiat! I would not want that out of warranty.

I have no idea about how crazy the BMW top will be.

But Car have very accurate info … But still: new Board of Management will decide to get green light for that car late this year, or put the project on ice.

Good… less fragmented, more integrated design, but distinctive. I think BMW design has found their stride.

this looks pretty good, the graphic artist has captured alot of bangles design styles…..except the back, that is a sorry attempt at bangle in my opinion. all in all, a good looking automobile.

The SL is a good looking car…perhaps a bit ubiquitous now that it has been out for a few years and is starting to show its age, but nonetheless it is a good looking car; certainly better Mercedes previous attempt at the SL. As well, for the most part Mercedes design, both interior and exterior has been as of late much better than BMW’s design. Just look at a CLS vs. a 5-Series; the CLS is a lot nicer, both inside and out.

As on the Z4, get rid of that vertical line behind the front wheels, and you have a winner. Otherwise, it’s a loser.

The BMW will also have a folding hardtop like the SL.

Plus the SL is built for comfort over driving experience. If you want thrills you get a Porsche 911.
Thats makes this piece of garbage useless as BMW’s are made for driver thrills not comfort. It will end up to be a flop like the Z8.

I know it will have a folding hardtop. Will it be like the SL? I don’t know. Neither do you.

so take a chill pill.

How many SLs have you driven? How many 911s? I’ll take this BMW over a 911 any day. Ever see the whole top process of an SL? Go and see it, then you will see how compilcated it is.

I step out of my door and there are 911s everywhere. I’ve driven plenty. and they’re great, but….this car will be cooler.

The Z8 is a great machine. They sold them all.

You don’t really know that much about cars.

R U a clown or something. My first cousin has an Mercedes SL and I think it is brilliant. It has first class comfort and the roof (although is complicated engineering wise) is brilliant engineering.

BMW has always been better then Mercedes at driver entertainin cos Mercedes have always been comfort orientated and is better then BMW at it. Porsche is driver orientated and is brilliant at it then BMW and most others. It doesn’t matter if you c Porsches everywhere because at the end of the day a porshe badge isn’t as common as a BMW badge.

And final point is that if your dumbass knew anything about cars then you would have known that all Z8 where sold cos they were beig discontinued, not because they were a success. If they were then they be available now. DO SOME RESEARCH

Stuart- The Z8s were a limited production car from the start. It was never intended to be a huge deal. They were hand assembled. It is not considered a flop. They are beautiful cars and willbe highly collect someday.

Go back and read your first post. What exactly was your point???

“Plus the SL is built for comfort over driving experience. If you want thrills you get a Porsche 911.

WTF are you talking about here? My statement initially was about the BMW being the better drivers car. You bash and support at the same time.

Also your posts are very difficult “text message style” gibberish. When you quote someone and try to bash them, make sure you get your point accross.

The Z8 was never a volume car, it wasn’t intended to be. The car is an icon today, evidenced by the fact that nice, low mile, preowned Z8’s still cost almost as much to buy today as they did new. That’s certainly not the case with an SL.
