Should LLN report random insignificant facts as news in order to drum up readership?

A random study by an unheard-of agency based in the back end of nowhere today asked a bunch of hicks some questions on subjects which they didn't care about. Thankfully this gave a sub-editor something to file because despite the tumultuous events in Detroit & Washington and one of the US's biggest car shows, he couldn't find anything significant to write about today.

It all great idea. How many people bought Jeep last year? Before? Is there is a room for such a small company? I think that investors at Cerberus have better idea what to do with their property then wondering minds.

It's not such a dumb idea if they can the entire Chrysler and Dodge product lines with the possible exception of the Ram pickup (the only other Chryco offering possibly eligible for rebadging as a Jeep) and the Compass. No more cars, no more minivans. Continue on as a Jeep company.

Seems to me that Jeep has such high brand equity, because it remained a niche builder for so long. If you knew what a Wrangler looked like a couple decades ago, you'd still be able to spot a new one on the streets today. It's kind of like the 911 in that regard.

But if you fold all sorts of vehicles and body types into the Jeep brand, I think you lose that equity. I want something rugged to go muddin' in, I buy a Jeep Wrangler, but if I want a heavy duty work truck, I also buy a Jeep?... Naw, I don't see it.

This is a dumb idea.

CNW Marketing Research,

That is the dumbest thing I read today.

Minivans sold to GM? What for? There is no demand for them. It was Chryseler's mistake for even continuing their production. And now they're taking a beating for it.

More SUVs badged as Jeeps? Hello! Why do you think Jeep just cut back on come models recently? There's too many models that don't make sense. Adding more would make even less.

"So what’s the basis for all of this? Well, according to CNW, the Jeep brand is nearly twice as “acceptable” to consumers as Chrysler." -LLN

What do you think Jeep is, a garbage can for all unwanted vehicles?

Then again, this is coming from a research company who claimed H2s & H3s were more fuel efficient than Toyota's Prius. HaHa

"CNWMR's publication "From Dust to Dust" [1] claims that for the 2005 model year a Hummer H2 or H3 (but not the H1) is more efficient than a Prius, despite the fact that a Prius is one-third the weight of a Hummer and gets between four and six times better mileage. CNWMR claims that their efficiencies are based on Priuses lasting only 109,000 miles whilst Hummers run for more than 300,000. Arguments against the claim call the methods of analysis that produced these figures questionable" -Wikipedia

I'm honestly surprised they think Jeep has such a great reputation considering how everyone finally turned their backs on SUV's once gas hit $4 a gallon. Now that it's back to $2 has everyone forgotten their lesson or is the mere fact that Jeep is more recognizable considered a great marketing tool, despite the fact that what they're recognized for isn't what's trendy anymore?

I'd be up for Chrysler rebranding themselves as Jeep Corp or AMC, shooting the Dodge trucks and SUVs to Jeep (and canning the ones with overlap), and merging the Dodge and Chrysler car lines under a brand called either "AMC" or "Eagle".

AMC/Eagle
Their subcompact could be called Metropolitan, Gremlin, or Pacer
Their compact could be called American or Summit
Their midsize could be called Concord, Statesman, or Matador
Their Charger/300 could become the Ambassador
The Challenger could become the Javelin

Jeep
The Patriot stays (Compass goes away)
The Wrangler stays
The Liberty stays (though a name change back to Cherokee would be better)
The Journey becomes the Commando
The Dakota gets restyled and becomes Comanche
The Grand Cherokee stays (Commander goes away)
The Ram becomes the Gladiator after a restyle
The Durango becomes the Wagoneer after a restyle

In the words of Frederick Frankentein, It...could...work!
