if F1 keeps going downhill with these stringent requirments and rules and such, it'll just become another boring money pit, and i've gona to the USGP and Deutsche GP several times, and its always exciting, but adding a hybrid, diesel, or ethenol requirment will produce a motorsport no more exciting than NASCAR, which is, beleive it or not, boring.

I agree with keeping the 2.4 V8 formula for a little while longer, in order to keep development costs down. Go green in that way. Do not institute MPG requirements. The teams are already incented to get higher MPG currently, because higher MPG = less frequent pit stops. But forcing this upon teams would result in less competition on the track, and less excitement for the fans. Let the drivers race, and don't focus so much on making the cars slower / more efficient. F1 has been getting safer and safer for over 12 years now.

#15: Except Max would like them to start the engine freeze next year, because the freeze in '08 actually reverts back to how the engines are running right now. Does that make any sense to anyone outside of the asylum? Honestly, if I made suggestions like that where I work, I'd be fired.

And when has stability ever meant change every other year?

My thoughts exactly Tim_s. You can't push all of these regs to slow cars down and decrease costs then require regs to that exponentially increase development costs. Is he planning to get all of those manufacturers to agree on a green engine technology? Diesel? Or is Ferrari gonna propose one and the other teams have to follow suit? (V8 engine anyone?)

What he could do is give time penalties to cars doing more than 1 pit stop for fuel. It would make the cars more effecient but not "Green".

Isn't it obvious that they are trying to get smaller fuel consumption so they don't have to pit as often and could use smaller fuel loads in races to gain an advantage?

They just don't tell everyone.

Yeah sure, let's change the engine formula yet again! I love how Mad Max wants to cut costs, but changes the engine formula EVERY YEAR driving development costs through the roof. Someone needs to depose that moronic little nazi.

Whew! Now that that's out of my system...

Using something like E85 wouldn't be a bad idea. Just as long as they're still using something that can be found at the pumps. It should be relavent to road cars in some way.

my main concern with going green for F1 is that such rules would undoubtedly have a deadline for completion that would precede testing finalization, thus adding more technical problems and misfortune for otherwise great drivers. i beleive that a race should be more about the driver than it is, and the way things are going now, adding some odd new technicality the mix will make F1 even more about the cars/manufacturers than about the skill level of drivers, German, Finnish or Spanish.

Why not. GT racing already has started with the R10 and going green doen't need mean any lack in performance. F1 cars are already able to be over built for specs, I owuld imagin that any sacrfice would still keep the cars at the current level of performance considering all the rules currently in place. Hell, even if it did slow them down, the racing might be a bit more exciting. This would be a good way to promote it as a viable option, as we will need to do something about it at some point in the future.. I owuld be curious how they would go about going green. As they say, racing improves the breed.
