There are 1,000's of such horror stories. They're installed by companies that make huge profits not only selling the systems but also taking a cut of the revenue. So it goes to figure that the more tickets that can be issued the more money they stand to gain. In one so. calif. city by me the photo goes to the company that sold the city the cameras 1st, then to the city. So what stops the company from photo shopping the pic to increase their revenue by simply changing the color of the light from yellow or green to red. The city then mails the offender a ticket with b/w photo and what they term as a bail amount of approx $385.00. If you want to just pay the ticket you pay that amount, case closed but if you want to fight it you still are required to pay the bail of $385 and if you win you get it back(who knows how long that would take). Whatever happened to no excessive bail or fines shall be imposed that is in the bill of rights? They must not have read them yet is all I can figure because that seems a bit high to me. In addition when did we start having to pay bail for a traffic violation anyway, if a cop writes me a ticket in calif. I sign it and I'm on my way but to be required to pay a bail for the same thing is messed up just because it was a camera that caught me allegedly running a red light. You don't receive a color photo until you decide to fight the ticket and if found guilty there are other monies to be paid on top of the intial bail amount. It is one of the biggest scams and invasions of privicy that is slowly creeping into our daily lives. I ask all of the people who have gotten cited to fight for your rights until all cities remove them from our intersections, this is how it starts, then one day you wake up and you have no rights left. These cameras are more than likely not the answer, but somethings got to give with these Fast and the Furious assholes that learned how to drive on a video game killing hookers and cops. Most police departments main goal isn't to encourage safe driving, just looking for the next easy revenue stream (see: central Florida speed traps). It got so bad in these small towns in Florida, that the state had to pass a law requiring the local police departments to hand over any excess cash made from these specially designed speed traps. Now it appears they're moving on to fixing the light running deterrent, which is a disservice to us all. Also, labeling the 40,000 or so deaths every year on the roads in the US as accidents is a f**king joke. And no, I'm not 65 years old! Most of the deaths are from shitty drivers, plain and simple. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go before I miss the early-bird special at the IHOP. I can tell you that in my city, the light running has gotten to a point where you don’t dare go when your light turns green (not sure if this is a nation-wide problem. anybody else?). I’m talking 3 or 4 seconds after your light turns green a car will come blazing through the red light. This was not the case twenty years ago when I first started driving. These cameras are more than likely not the answer, but somethings got to give with these Fast and the Furious assholes that learned how to drive on a video game killing hookers and cops.
