Renault- Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn and General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner are set to meet this week in Paris to discuss the proposed alliance between their two companies. With a deadline for some type of decision set for mid-October, there is increasing skepticism that any alliance will be formed.

Ghosn’s chief negotiator, Patrick Pelata, reportedly told journalists yesterday in Paris it’s unclear if the synergies between the two organizations is enough to warrant an alliance. “I don’t know,” Pelata said. According to Forbes, the consensus so far is GM is not convinced.

Yesterday, Automotive News quoted Mr. Ghosn as saying GM would have to accept changes down through middle management. If not, “it’s over [...] forget about it,” he said. “You have to choose: Do you want performance, or do you want control,” he said.
