Confirming earlier reports, Skoda has officially announced that it will market a vehicle based on the Volkswagen Up. Addition, the Czech automaker confirmed a new sedan that will be aimed at developing regions.

Skoda chairman Winfried Krause confirmed the new Up-based vehicle at the automaker’s annual press conference. Set to debut by the end of the 2011, the Up-based model is currently known as the ‘City Car’.

Krause says the City Car is Skoda’s “answer to the increasingly strong demand for small cars with low fuel consumption and affordable running costs”.

Krause also confirmed a new sedan that will sit between the Fabia and Octavia in the Skoda lineup. The sedan will likely be sold in Europe but will mainly be aimed at emerging markets, including China.

No other details were given but both models will follow the design language laid out by the recent VisionD concept. The VisionD concept debuted earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show.
