Small company aims to revive VW GX3

04/13/2007, 1:30 PM

By admin

When Volskwagen unveiled its three-wheel GX3 Concept last year and claimed it was headed for mass production, it seemed too good to be true. Despite initially insisting the project would go ahead, VW eventually got cold feet and scrapped it. Now, an independent firm called Defiant Motors is attempting to acquire the rights to the GX3 design, with hopes for mass production.

“We hope to partner with VW, having them produce the vehicle and have it rebadged as a Defiant,” said Aaron Mady of Defiant Motors. “While doing so we still intend to keep to the original projected price of under $17,000.”

Volkswagen is believed to be fully capable of producing the GX3, but legal concerns over the unsafe nature of the vehicle have prevented the company from selling the car-motorcycle mash-up.

“We would like to emphasize at this point that we have not currently entered into any agreement with Volkswagen,” a statement on Defiant’s website reads. The company hopes Volkswagen will allow it to market the GX3 and will assume the liability associated with selling it.

This thing would be a blast to rip around in carving canyon roads. It’s a toy, and not a car, but it’s really cool.

“You pony up all the investment money, you set up the factory to build all these damn things, you get the supplies flowing in and the cars rolling out, and then we’ll allow you to put our name on it. Yeah, we’re nice like that.”

Idiots. VW should have just built it to begin with. This will never come to fuition at this point.

I was really looking forward to this thing and hope to see it around. THis and the KTM X-Bow can start competition in a new market.

It’s not like its the only 3 wheeled sporty toy thing around. Look at the carver, America is getting that in 2 years. Why shouldn’t we get more big boy toys.

I think it’d be a neat toy for those who could afford to drop $17k on a weekend trill ride. Hell, if I could, I think I’d buy it… or that Ariel Atom. Cars like these must be a blast to drive. I think most people are put off by these kind of cars because they have zero practicality, but I doubt the manufacturers were aiming for practical, and I don’t think the kind of people who shop for these cars could care less.

How is this any less safe than a motorcycle…and how is it any less fun than anything else you can possibly buy this side of 40k?

I’d definitely get one, would make a great autoX/track/fun car, you know, for those of us who like FUN cars.

Like so many other concept cars. But these concept cars can help generate some better design ideas for future cars.
