“Small” Maybach due in 2009

06/06/2006, 5:32 PM

By admin

Mercedes is planning to launch its smallest Maybach model in 2009, according to a new report by Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport. The V12 vehicle would offer between 500 and 600 horsepower, and would be similar in size to the Mercedes S-Class. Tentatively called the Maybach 51 — due to its 5.1 meter length — the car could even share a platform with the W221 S-Class. A coupe version is expected to follow the sedan variant, the magazine said. The sedan will be priced against the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and the forthcoming “small” Rolls-Royce model. (Pictured right is the new Maybach 57 S, currently the most driver-oriented model in the Maybach lineup.)

I think its funny that you ask about a Japanese having a hand in the production of the Enzo because the 1985 288 GTO and the 1987 F40 had Japanese turbos. The GTO and F40 were Enzo’s personal projects.

By the way, what’s the appeal to buy a Maybach? I don’t get it. I work in banking among very wealthy people and I don’t think any of them would be interested in buying one either (assumption based on what many of them drive).

Smaller Maybach coming in 2009

Long saloon cars have always been in vogue but parking them can be a real pain. What if there is no long driveway? What good is a car, be it a Maybach if it can’t take you where you want to take it. And the reason would be as puerile as its size, th…
