smart revealed the first sketches of its upcoming for-us concept back in early December, but now the subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz has bestowed upon us another handful of official images before this quirky new concept takes to the stage later today billed as the antithesis of the traditional pickup.

For starters, it is merely 139 inches long, 59 inches wide and 66 inches high. The photos released by smart do not show the front of it, but the German automaker claims the for-us has a “friendly yet assertive face” that prominently features the brand’s logo in the middle of the grille.

The interior accommodates two passengers in seats that have been designed to provide a relaxing hammock-like feel. Designers tossed away the rearview mirror in favor of a camera that transmits images to a smartphone mounted on the dash.

Out back the tailgate slides flat under the bed, giving easy access to the 35-inch long cargo area that can easily fit two bikes. If the bikes are electric ebikes manufactured by smart, there are plugs available to charge them while the car is in motion.

Power comes from a 55 kilowatt electric engine that is derived from the unit found in the fortwo electric drive that will debut next year. It puts out 95 lb-ft of torque and gives the for-us a top speed of about 75 miles per hour. smart has not mentioned whether the motor is mounted in the front or in the rear.

The for-us will make its full world premiere at the North American International Auto Show later today. At the time of writing it looks rather unlikely that the this urban pickup will ever make it to production, but the front end of the concept should give a good indication as to what the next-generation smart will look like.
