Other than it’s size I see no real advantage to buying this thing, you’d be much better off spending your money on a regular car that doesn’t have a POS engine mated to an even worse transmission. Like the article noted there are cars that get better mileage that don’t try to snap your neck in half each time it shifts… Even a car that doesn’t get quite the same mileage would still at least partly make up for it by not requiring premium fuel.

And if you’re THAT worried about parking, buy a motorcycle or use public transportation.

jayjc, why even beat around the bush. For $18k you could probably find yourself a 2 year old Mustang GT.

Beatus, I know I’m being harsh here, but as a guy who once had a hard-on for a Suzuki X-90 trust me you’ll get over it. Better yet, rent one for a week and see if you can live with it. You’re in Vegas, and from what I’ve heard you can rent pretty much anything you want.

This is a love, hate relationship for me. For everyday travels, I would love this thing. But the starting price for what it is is way too high, I would much rather by a Hyundai, Kia, Nissan or another small car for the price I’d be willing to pay for this (just around $10k). For $18k though, I could get a lot better (Mazda3, Fiesta, Corolla, Civic, Fit, Sentra, etc.)

How quickly a fad goes awry esp with cheap gas. The local dealer here use to have basically an empty lot but now there are always about 20 of them sitting there. half Brabus models which do look (slightly) better….

Andrew, your review is brilliant. I might even go so far as to say I probably had a better time reading about the Smart than you had driving the Smart. I know you can’t reply to my speculation as a direct consequence of your profession and any future aspirations of remaining in such, but I just hope you’re able to claim the novelty nose and glasses on your expenses.

And could they not have picked another name? Despite that 1.0l of “pure fury” the odds of you ‘Passion’ anything are slim and none.

Ugly POS!! Everytime I see one of these things on the road, I feel like running them over to see if the person inside will survive. Forget the fact that the windshield will stay intact in the even of an accident, what about the person behind the wheel that will be mutilated beyond recognition? What about the fact that it will be humiliating to show on their death certificate that they died in a SMART car? Pretty stupid huh?
