The 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T isn’t even on the market yet, but famed tuner Steve Saleen has announced that his newest company — SMS — will be offering two performance variation of Chrysler’s newest pony car. Dubbed the SMS 570TM Challenger and SMS 570XTM Challenger, the two models promise to up the Challenger’s performance to supercar levels.
Both models will feature a supercharger atop the Challenger R/T’s 5.7L HEMI V8, but the SMS 570XTM Challenger will take top bill in the performance department. While the SMS 570TM Challenger will make a stout 500 horsepower, the SMS 570XTM Challenger will pack over 700 angry ponies, according to AllPar.com.
In addition to dragster-esque horsepower ratings, the two cars will sport a number of other performance features, including an upgraded drivetrain, a beefier suspension, performance wheels and tires, aerodynamic improvements and a unique interior.
To finish off the package, all modified Challengers will wear special badging and will be signed by Steve Saleen.

Nice. Can’t wait to see if Roush will develop their own version of the new Camaro since they are apparently expanding to other manufacturers besides Ford.

Nice move, especially with current gas prices. But then again, you can’t put price on fun!
I live in Ontario (where Challengers are built) and I wonder where could you unleash 430, let alone 500 or 700 ponies outside of a racetrack with current draconian laws regarding speed limit, street racing/stunt driving and OPP getting a f*ckin’ plane!!!

^^To both of the above ^^
Then I sure hope you think both the Mustang and the upcoming Camaro are ugly ass cars.
Either way… looks are subjective. I think the Challenger looks fantastic, if for no other reason than they tried to remain truer to the original than its two competitors… The Challenger was a good looking car way back when and it still is today…
Also, I’m glad to see some tuners already taking a crack at it… a 700HP LX?? Good golly…

Supercar? I don’t know how to break this to the LL bloggers, but HP does not a supercar make. A supercar actually has innovation in suspension, form, structure, steering, weight reduction and ability to handle at high speeds — something that this retarded lump of typical Detroit retro-non-innovation does not have.

^Agreed again, turning a 300 into a coupe and slapping a blower does make a supercar.

All you fags talking down this car are just stupid. This is one of the most pure passion vehicles produced in a long time. It’s an awesome classic vehicle - so sad you boneheads can’t appreciate art on wheels.

Who will carry the warranty? SMS or Chrysler? This is academic question for Jay Leno (he has his staff to maintain cars), but the rest of customer base probably will care.

To those saying this isn’t a supercar. You can keep saying that as this “detroit lump” walks an R8, M5, M3, etc.

This may sound unholy, but I’m sooooo tired of hearing about fing Saleen. Overpriced mustangs is all they are. ANYBODY, except for the geeks on here, can take a new GT and throw a bigger throttle body, exhaust and supercharger on.

that is like calling the Shelby Super Snake just another mustang. WTF ever, this challenger and mustang are both supercars. ****, I don’t know all the tue on this challenger, but I am sure they have beefed up everything, not just a SC and Blower.
But I do know that the super snake( the one w/ 725HP) has flaps that shoot out just to help it slow down. Go ahead and say that isn’t innovation. Anyways, this challenger is the $h!7. Wish they were affordable, lol

I’m always going to support detroit but I’ll bust there balls when they deserve it and when it comes to this bath tub on wheels… There’s nothing nice to be said about it! You can try and spin it anyway you want “looks are subjective”… “it’s a pure passion vehicle”… the proof will be how it sells or as I’m predicting…. DOESN’T!!!!!

How it sells. Shouldn’t it be in the way it drives. I can’t understand why so many Civic’s and Accords sell over these Cars. Ow yeah becasue all the haters own one and are gay. Just enjoy the tail lights.

Dont get why everyone gets so excited about this cars “styling”. Its been around for what 20 plus years!
I found the original styling way overrated.
Were they beautiful designs when it came out? Or are people just re-living their childhood?
As far as power goes, its not that hard to produce big HP these days.
In the end, its just another gimmicky Chrysler product with an old old shell.

The Challenger is an awesome car the styling and everything was pulled off as well as the mission. This car like the original Challenger was made to be a loud green light machine and all this performace package does is up the anty. I think this package will allow many novices to take their 5 speed auto Challenger and turn it into a car where the slushbox doesn’t matter anymore because it’s that fast. On the other hand those drivers out there with actual skills are going to need to find a different car because the Challenger handles like a pig and all it is really good for is that favorite American pastime of green light drag racing. Again people buy the package if you want but I encourage anyone who is considering buying this to save their money so that they can buy some real driving skills.

If you don’t like it, then keep buying your cookie cutter milf mobile’s like toyota’s and honda’s. I’ll stick to something that looks DIFFERENT, even if it is based on the original which it should. Go bash the new mustangs and upcoming camaro if you don’t like retro retard, better yet, go bash your head into a concrete wall. I still think Saleen is over-rated as hell. ANYONE can build a car just as good as a Saleen, it’s not that hard to add a supercharger, some bolt ons, and a stupid ground effect kit. And the Shelby Super Snake IS just another gawdied up mustang, unless your talking about the 427 cobra version, which is just a little crappy english car with a huge Ford engine. Not that hard to make something that weighs 2000 lbs with a 427 fast now is it?

Well… they’ve already sold out its initial production run…
I’m also not quite sure how a comment like “looks are subjective,” is somehow a “spin.” Looks are in the eye of the beholder, which is the definition of subjectivity.
So I’m really uncertain as to what they hell your argument is exactly…?

How do you guys know if it handles well or not what are you basing that on. Check out this article from Top Gear. They usually hate American cars so this means a lot, to me anyway.
