Spied: 2007 Porsche 911 GT2 (997)

06/01/2006, 8:33 AM

By admin

Spy photographers snapped a single shot of the 2007 Porsche 911 GT2 in testing. The car is rumored to have a 530 horsepower engine and a top speed of over 200 mph. It will have the same braking system as the Porsche Carrera GT and the same wide rear end as the all-wheel-drive 911s (such as the Turbo), and the 2007 GT3 RS.

I do not know if they were the same cars or not, but my car club was on a drive in the Colorado Rockies 4 weeks ago, and we were stopped at an overlook when two unidentified black 911’s went by. These were not current models, and were all black. I know that Porsche does some testing here occasionally, since my mechanic is commissioned by Porsche to set up their cars for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb every year. I do get to see some interesting cars each year because of it as well.

Whatever the two cars were, they were mean looking. Should have had my camera ready. Unfortunately we were extracting my buddies 928 out of a ditch/snow bank at the time. He made a stupid mistake which had big consequences. D’Oh!

Porsche is making some serious 911’s for the 997 run… I will take one of each.

I think I rather have the GT3 RS, sure it has less HP, but it uses a NA engine, which is going to be better to run over the long term.

14…the brain in your head is “junk”
It’s a test mule for testing out components that will be used in the future 997 GT2(like certain aerodynamic parts, engine, suspension, etc.).

think?

Actually, #14 & 15, if you looked harder, you’d know porsche just puts chrome tape around the headlights to make it look like the 996. Anyone who followed the development of the 997 knows porsche has been doing that for a few years. that is no test mule. Paying attention to a few other simple lines on the car would have told you that.

I made a bet with an Italian buddy of mine who believes that Lamborghinis are the greatest cars in the world. The bet we made is that when the new Porsche GT2 comes out it will be quicker than a Lamborghini Murcielago in the quarter mile.
Did I make a good bet?
