Spied: 2007/2008 Chevrolet Silverado

06/12/2006, 5:06 PM

By admin

Spy photographer Chris Doane caught the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado during a photo shoot this week. While the truck was originally expected as a 2008 model, GM reportedly fast-tracked develop so that car can enter the market this fall as a 2007 model. We expect official images from GM in the near future. [Front View | Rear View].

Very well done from what I can see so far, looks like an evolution of the previous Chevy truck. I like the large fenders. I’d like to see this truck in action.

I have put a lot of miles on my 03 Z71 extra cab. The only complaint I have is the constant failure of the defrost feature on the outside mirrors. Other than that, it is bullet proof, tough and the 5.3 ltr is a fantastic powerplant.
I try to never make a final decision on the looks of a car/truck until I have seen it live. Pictures rarely do justice.

Does it look tough? No. It’s tough to look at.

Dodge – much better looking truck.
Ford – much better looking truck.
Nissan – somewhat better looking truck.
Toyota – slightly better looking truck.

Even if the GM trucks have a few more HP, can carry a little more weight, tow a few pounds more and get a mile or two more per gallon, I think GM truck sales are going to be dissapointing. The thing is just UGLY. And I don’t know why… because GM, like everyone else, has been looking at the well styled Ford F-150 and Dodge pickups for years. You’d think they’d have learned a thing or two by example.

I have been waiting dillegently for almost a year to see this truck before I made a purchase. I am certainly not blown away, but it does look different than the 07 “Classic”. To me the front looks like a late 90’s 3500. The rear looks OK. The flared fenders look like add-on’s. They just don’t jive with the flat, plain side panels(doors). I am dissapointed to say the least – it just doesn’t make a statement! The wheels are entirely too small for this drive train (Z71). Unless the interior is super futuristic and well laid out – I think this truck will be a huge disapointment for GM. I’m not too hip on the general direction the full sized trucks are heading. I guess I’ll have to take advantage of the close-out prices on the 06’s or wait another 2 or 3 years for Ford to do something different.

This truck looks horrible! I have a 2000 Silverado, and I was going to trade-in on this new body style.
It has to be the ugliest truck GM has ever built. The front is too plain, way too much chrome, the windows look awful, and the tail lights look like a Ford! Maybe I should do what one other person said and just
get a good deal on a close-out ‘06! If Chevy plans to keep this truck as the final design, I predict they will have a big loss in truck sales. GM could have done so much more with this vehicle…what were they thinking?

adjectives for the the exterior = cluttered & confused… this confirms that the glimmer of hope GM manages to produce every once in a while is luck not an actual turnaround. I am disappointed with the exterior’s lack of cleanliness. Did the gaps on the body panels increase or does it just look like that because they doubled the number of gaps on the front end? None of the bulges (fenders/hood/etc.) are in harmony and create a perception that the design team over-tinkered with the trivial elements when they should have been focusing on creating a few defining lines that are impressionable. GM needs to find a more discerning view of design that can be applied at the macro level. The truck segment needs more than a splash especially considering today’s economy!

I too am a very frustrated gm fan and now former owner. You would never get me back in a Silverado, especially with the way the new 2007 look. I’m on my way to my nearest Ford dealer. At least they can design something that looks and runs like a truck.
