Spied: 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

06/05/2006, 12:51 PM

By admin

The spies at KGP Photography have caught what appears to be the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu in testing. As anticipated, the car takes on a more aggressive look with wider shoulders, a lower roofline, and a generally modernized appearance. While KGP has identified the car as a 2008 Chevy Impala, we find this suggestion highly unlikely, as GM is widely expected to unveil a retro-styled rear-wheel-drive Impala for the 2009 or 2010 model year. This vehicles is almost certainly the new Malibu. [Front View | Side View].

It does sort of have the G6/ Aura stance. Is Epsilon II only going to be long wheelbase? Because that looks considerably longer than the current malibu, which is to my knowledge the only short wheelbase Epsilon.

Great….I’m…so excited about this. This car, along with the upcoming redesigned Chyrsler Sebring do not interest met at all. I’ll stick to Subaru Legacy’s, Mazda 6’s, Honda Accords, Nissan Altimas, even the new Toyota Camry. In fact I’d take a used version of any of those cars than a new 2008 Malibu or Sebring

GM should just leave total production of this model to one unit. It would be so much easier to recall….

looks like a cross between my ‘04 Stratus and a ‘99 Intrigue, possibly a hint of ‘02 altima.

Nothing to original, but appears to be a much better offering than the present.

GM Don’t value engineer it so it becomes another good loking POS. People will pay extra for good stuff. Well in Europe they will. If you shop on price you get rubbish.

Although, your blatently anti-american ramblings are slightly humerous at best, mildly disturbing at worst…

I love the comments on this site. We have such experts here that we can tell this car is a POS by camo shots. This car is supposed to be huge. I know GM has been promising for years but things are different know. Just wait guys…

thanks Tariq. That is clearly a well thought out post. Well researched and highly informative comments are a rarity these days on the automotive enthusiasts blogs, and I would like to thank you for your contribution.

While I may be clearly supportive of Ameri can cars and against imported cars, I don’t see why you try to cover your biased point of views with proper grammar, Patrick.

Sorry, chi dell, but regardless of their current state, GM’s going up, and the day Toyota overtakes GM will never come. Time to get out the Kleenex and start sobbing your imported ass off.

Even the 1998 “Car of the year” Malibu became nothing but rental car fodder so I don’t know why this one should be any different.

It’s funny, we know no specs of this car but it’s already junk. Get off the hater bandwagon people. Life is too short to hate on everything. Given GMs track record I am skeptical this will be a good car but who knows, this could be the one that turns it all around.

Screw chevy. If GM. really wants Buick back in the game, they should bring back the Grand National. It should be around the size of the 3 series & then copy what BMW is doing and offer three engine choices if they want.

1- The “entry level” G.N. should have a 6 banger
2- The next step could be called a Grand National
Classic or a Grand National “C” and offer a turbo 6
3- The top model should have the Corvettes engine
with about 440-450hp so it could smoke every M,
AMG & S out there.

Buick wants younger buyers……..this would do it.

I drive a 98 cutlass :-(

Same car as the 98 Malibu so I know a little bit about the history of these cars. The current offering is not very exciting at all. This spied model doesn’t seem like anything revolutionary but much better then the current Malibu/Impala IMHO.

younger buyers dont know what a grand national was…and if they do they think of it as a fast car their loser uncle used to have back in the 80s…

Definitely a big improvement from the current model. I hope GM will develop it with” top of the class everything” instead of half-hearted attempts of just being able to compete with the import brands. Because the Camrys and Accords are a moving target. Offer a DOHC V-6 to the topline models.

And offer a stick with the V6…

Does this mean the current model will carry the “Classic” name to move the excess inventory from the plants?

Actually, statistics SHOW and prove that Toyota is going to become the world’s largest car manufacturer in the next 10 years, and GM, or Ford, or Chrysler will die out. It looks like it’s beteween GM and Ford right now, but to say that Toyota won’t take over GM in the future is just ignorance, you sell more cars when you make good, quality vehicles, a pretty basic fact that Toyota has figured out, but GM is still ignoring. Good ridance to the General.

GM needn’t be concerned about Toyota taking over the corp. Toyota won’t have the chance.

Oh, the Koreans? You ask… Will they surpass GM ?

Well, maybe, but soon after…

“The Chinese are coming! The Chinese are coming!”

Haven’t heard? Just Google “chinese cars US”

Scary stuff, kids.

Yeah, if this Malibu gets recalled, GM might close to Toyota’s volume of recalls.
