Earlier, we brought you the first spy photos showing the semi-undisguised face of the 2008 Ford Focus. Before that, we brought you evidence of both coupe and sedan variants, all due at the Detroit auto show this January.
Now, we’ve got the first glimpse of the new car’s interior, which is significantly revised from its predecessor. It’s unclear prototype picture represents a finished interior, or a work in progress. Photo after the jump…

NOW, YOU SHUT UP ABOUT HOW ITS CRAP AND ALL. ITS A POOR PICTURE. GO TO THE AUTO SHOW OR WAIT FOR IT TO COME TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN COMMENT ON IT!!!!!

seriously though, you can’t judge the “acres and acres” of plastic until they remove the film covering it. Unless it’s going to be that color white stuff.

okay to the ppl that critisze the plastic. WTF do u want? Leather and wood only apear on the dash on much higher quality vehicles. I mean i can understand that cheap plastics are nasty but jesus its an econobox thats what ur gonna get.

I don’t mind the acres of plastic – as stated it is an econobox. However, when I go to replace the econobox stereo with a nice Alpine unit, where does it go? IT DOESN’T!!! Bad design. You’re stuck with their crappy tunes.

Compare this or any other Focus interior to what you get in say a Honda Fit or Civic. The fit, finish and quality of materials in those cars blow anything Ford has away.
It’s thinking like megator’s that has gotten domestic automakers in the spot they are today. Just becuase the car is “cheap” relative to luxury models doesn’t mean it has to be poorly designed, and made with the cheapest materials. Even an “econobox” costs in the neighborhood of $15,000 which is a pretty good sized sum of money to anyone (if you disagree just go ask a multi-millionaire for that sum, since it’s so incosequential to them and watch them laugh in your face).
Why would anyone settle for an inferior product when spending this large sum of money? Only ignorance, indiference, studity and factory incentives sell these types of products.

You guys continue to bash Ford for everything they do…but when you look at this interior how can you say its not better than most of its competitors?
Chevy Aveo – Boring Interior, typical GM head unit
Dodge Caliber – Blocky and Boring
Hyundai Elantra – Once again boring compared to this interior..
Toyota Yaris – Youve gotta be an alien to like that styling
Toyota Corolla – Outdated
Kia Rio – Cheep looking
Scion Xb – just plain weird
The only interiors that may look nicer are Honda fit/civic and Mazda 3…..I like how Ford has used more of a volvo layout and the mazda information unit on the top….Its a lot more exciting than the previous focus and a lot more exciting than most of its competitors so quit bashing ford because their down…their new products prove that their going in the right direction!!!

no megator, look at the interior on a Rabbit/Jetta Value Edition, both in the price range of the focus, and youll see what an interior in this price range should signify.

By looking at the fog lamps (in the previous post) and the steering wheel controls, this seems to be the top of the line model, not the strippo version.
Although this picture might not represent the fit and finish of the final production run, the design should be final and its very disappointing.

The interior on the European Focus (yes, I know. one more time…) is both classier and looks better built, and it was designed three years ago (or however long ago). It looks like Ford NA went out of its way to make this cheap so they could cut manufacturing costs. Wouldn’t it be simpler to restructure factories to rebuild at least the interior of the European models? But, I need to stay on topic: new interior = Garbage. I can almost hear the hollow sound when you knock on plastic like that.

Alright ive never understood this obsesion with interiors. I have sat in countless cars new and old and haven’t really been bothered by the quality of their plastics. i want a dash that is easy to use and looks clean and simple like this and not the crap in the new civic or yaris. I want a dash that doesnt ratle or squeeq and feels solid. if it has nasty shiny plastics i dont really care. the only distinction i can see is when u spend much more on cars like rollers and bentlys with wood in the dash and leather.

mblommel nailed it, unbelievable, you took the words RIGHT out of my mouth. Honestly, just because a car is an economy car has no impact on if the interior is ****ty or not. The Mazda3, the Honda Civic, the Honda Fit, the VW Rabbit, the Nissan Sentra, the Nissan Versa, and even the Toyota Corolla have interiors that blow this away. Oh and look, they’re all in the same price category. mblommel is right, $15,000 is still a lot of money compared to most things in life, even if its not a whole lot for a car, and just because its less than what you pay for other classes of vehicles doesn’t mean you have to be satisfied with mediocrity and inferior interior trim.

…People keep complaining about the cheap plastic interior, of course its cheap plastic, its a $13,000 car, what did you expect, Mahogany and Walnut? C’mon people, name one car at its price point that doesn’t have cheap plastic interior. Heck, there are cars out there that cost 2x as much that have cheap plastic interiors.
A co-worker of mine bought a new Altima, that looks just as cheap and all plastic, ever look into a 300C for $30,000…all plastic.
