So far, the only spy photos available of the upcoming A4 Allroad station wagon don't show a wagon at all, but rather an A4 sedan prototype being used to test the Allroad wagon components. Luckily, we've got a new computer-generated illustration that provides a very good idea of how the finished A4 Allroad will look.
Audi has been using the A4 Sedan to test the Allroad wagon parts because the company hasn't yet unveiled the A4 Wagon, and does not want to give away its design prematurely.
After the new A4 wagon makes its public debut, we expect to see A4 Allroad prototypes using the appropriate wagon body style. If you don't want to wait for that, our newest artists' illustration should give you an indication of what to expect.
The Allroad is fitted with matte-black wheel arches and an increased ride-height, both of which are key components of Audi's Allroad concept.
The wheel arch extensions appear to be integrated into the surrounding design elements, showing an intentional flow from the front and rear bumpers into the newly applied flares. Similarly, a new side sill completes the design to give this wagon quite a finished look.
Since its inception, the Audi Allroad has only existed as a spin-off to the A6 wagon. For the first time, it appears that an A4-based Allroad will join the lineup.

Um….why?
Seriously, what is the point of the All-Road lineup from Audi? Fender flares and a taller ride height? I just don't see the point. I've seen maybe two of these in my entire life here in the states.
beautiful, just what needs to kill subaru
now get the S8 engine in there, and you got yourself a rally car
Right Pherary, a rally car with a huge and heavy 10 cylinder engine.
Livelyjay, if they really wanted to sell it over here they need to throw on a set of 33 inch mudders, the V10, a winch and a gunrack.
Are too many cars popping out of Audi these days?
I seriously just think it's a test mule… A4 Allroad Sedan? Give me a break!
Why not an allroad sedan? Don't the Q7 and upcoming Q5 pretty much do the same thing an allroad wagon would do? A4 and A6 allroad sedans would seem to make more sense in that they wouldn't directly compete with Audi's SUV lines. I agree though.. WAY too many Audi variations appearing these days.
These cars are the shit in the snow and I see a lot of them in mountain communities like denver. Subaru, Audi, and Volvo sell way higher percentages in high elevation towns. In the town im in it seems like subauru easily out sells toyota.
Even Subaru stopped selling the Outback Sedan… Audi canceled the Allroad here due to poor sales. Sedans sell better in the U.S.
I truly think it's a Mule. Just because there is black fenders and has a raised suspension on a A4 body doesn't mean it's a A4. More and more Audi's will be built off the new A4 platform (example: Q5, A4, A5).
People here and other forums take photos too literal!
I'm kind of sensing that Audi is now becoming the new Mercedes in the way of making new cars for niches that nobody thought existed!
Yea…definitely doesn't work on the sedan. When the real thing shows up (the wagon) I expect it to look much better. Audi (and Volvo) make pretty decent looking "off road wagons"
Fuck yes! Such a cool niche car!
I doubt theyl have two allroads as well as the Q7 Q5 and Q3
I have to snicker a little with regard to all these "AllRoad" vehicles (not just Audi) that everyone seems to think they "need". As a kid I traveled extensively with my family off to the hinterlands of Canada when the majority of the roads were dirt/gravel/mud/etc. A good set of meaty tires, RWD with heavy luggage in the rear of a 52 Chevy Sedan did the trick. No GPS either.
eh.
I fail to see how a little bit of height instantly transforms a car into an "allroad" vehicle. Audi must not think much of its buyers to think they are that stupid (or are they?)
CA: Have you ever driven a Honda Accord in more then 4" of snow? AWD is a must and a little clearance helps in the snow but tires are the most important factor no matter what your driving.
Not bad. Styling seems better than Subaru to me.
And yet you're the one with the intellect of a garden rake and a reference to penis size in your name. Oh, the irony is so thick…
Stick to picking fights with rocks, kid. You're more likely to win an argument that way.
I'm not sure why these types of cars are so popular. In Montreal (snowy as hell, everyone with extra cash to burn has a country cottage in the snowy mountains) people love this shit - it's Subarus and Allroads galore up in the snowy north.
You would think a nice brawny SUV (like a Jeep) would be cooler - more coccooned cabin, more space, better ground clearance…
I dig the allroads, I was kinda pissed when audi stopped offering it. This is a result, no doubt, of the higher gas prices and people getting out of their suvs for wagons. Nice to see it back.
Deanster, Jeep drives like a jeep. Your do have 6 months without snow per year. Audi allroad drives like a nice car should. I love 4 wheel drive cars - they do make a lot of sense. Actually, it will even handle better then FWD stablemate.
I have a friend who bought an Audi (A4) with all wheel drive and he let me drive it - I wasn't impressed, sort of like a fat, heavy Honda Accord…and he said gas mileage is the shits.
It does seem a little redundant to sell crossovers and Allroad wagons since crossovers are essentially station wagons on steroids. I guess if Audi can bring in a few more customers by simply raising the height of a wagon and slapping on some lower body extensions, then go for it. As long as they don't apply this treatment to the sedan (which looks incredibly ridiculous), then I don't see a problem with it.
Another shitty OOOO car trying to look special… keep sort of trying and fail again and again… fail forever, I couldn't care less…
Does anybody here actually read the article or just look at pictures and comment? The car is going to be a wagon. They're using the sedan body on the mule so disguise it.
I just don't see the reason of this as long as they have A6 Allroad, Q7, plus all their models make use of the Quattro system. If produced, probably this is going to be a collectors item from 2040 onwards. If it will sell for about 15,000 Euros I'll consider 1 for myself, but as long as it will sell for no less than 40,000 Euros… I'll just pass it!
Jake1 is right. They didn't fool me! Who needs this anyway?!?!?! If a muddy road gets in your way just buy a Dacia 1300, equip it with 5 mature people and… cruise to the "finish". I tell U from experience actually. With that car that has around 60HP we were cruising in 20cm deep mud like hell, and it's not a 4×4 badged car, BTW.
Audi are just producing so many cars now, Alot good but tell me, what is the fucking point of his car????
V2: point is they'll probably sell. This only goes to prove how successful crossovers are, even when they're really a superfluous addition to your lineup.
I'll take this over an X3 or GLK anyday! the orginal allroad was best of all!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
…It's a station wagon!
