I highly doubt this will ever make into the US because of the huge failure of the W203 hatch from 2002-05. Benz would sooner release the A or B class in the US if it was going to compete in the small econo- market. And for that matter, why bring in something that could potentially hurt the Smart car’s sales? Benz can’t make the C-coupe any bigger because it would (sizewise) compete with the A/C209 CLK which is based on W203 achitecture but, in actuality, is (based on options, features, and styling) a coupe version of the W211 E-Class. Following the heritage of the CLK (A/C209,208,124) it has always been a two-door E-class (W/S211,210,124). If Mercedes wants to produce a two-door C-class, it would have to be a hatchback folloing thier “logic.”

I bet that if Mercedes built a true rival to the BMW 3- Series Coupe with a body shape similar in profile to the BMW’s, it would outsell this POS by a huge margin.

It’s a no brainer…like bringing the four-door truck to America. In what must be the largest market for pick-up trucks in the world, why on earth did we have to wait so long to get four-door trucks?

Mercedes is leaving a lot of sales on the table by not competing with the 3 series coupe.

Even from those spy pics those tail lights already look like the old C230 coupe’s old tail lights that I never cared for. Please don’t bring those back. Car looked good from the front until you saw the back. But when it first came out I thought it’d be a good thing. A high 20k sub 30k coupe from Mercedes isn’t a bad thing unless it is watered down. But If they can do this one right. Who knows. No matter what though because it’s a Mercedes it’s always going to be over-priced compared to other cars in its segment. That’s just how it goes ladies and germs.

Just to clarify for everyone posting above that apparently can’t read, the article states that this is the EXISTING model with a new front end MIMICING the new C-class sedan. And yes, this seems to be a bad idea because M-B made this decision when they thought they were targeting the similarly facelifted 318ti, but instead this model is going to have to compete with the more modern 1-series as well.

Uh, this doesn’t look like a “new” model so much as a facelift from the current model.

Look at the interior…it’s nearly identical to the older generation. The rear half of the car looks that way, too. Sure, they’re probably update the taillight clusters and trim, and give it a new sedan-like front. But I’ll bet you anything that this car is just a re-skin of the old one.

This is essentially a “restyle” instead of a “redesign”. It is just a carryover design with updated front/rear end treatments.

I think this car functions well enough as an entry level vehicle for Mercedes. I do agree with some of the previous posts about the model designation for this vehicle. I don’t think that Mercedes should continue to call it a “C-Class” vehicle since it rides on the previous generation’s mechanicals. I think calling this vehicle “C-Class” just cheapens the image of the current generation “C-Class” products.

what happened to the low slung, widebody AMG versions that mercedes used to create. Those boxy, punch-you-in-the-teeth-and-shag-your-wife designs used to rule tarmac. nowadays, these conservative merc’s look like a saab on a peacekeeping rendezvous.
