Spied again: 2008 BMW M3

07/11/2006, 1:38 PM

By admin

BMW fan ‘jimmy540i‘ snapped a handful of new photos of the 2008 BMW M3 this week. At least one test car is now regularly seen in California, with makeshift bumpers, hood, and wheels. We brought you the first images of the vehicle in early June. The 400+ horsepower car is expected to debut late this year or in early 2007. Gallery after the jump…

I am salivating just thinking about this car. This will be the best V8 connected to the best chassis. I already have the deposit saved up for it when they start accepting them.

No way…. dont tell me the guy taking the pics was in a Ferrari 360 Modena. The side mirror, the hood, the side intake and door handel all are the same with the 360. Holy pricetag Batman.

the v8 better be light or its gonna take agility out of the m3 and make it really unatractive

I would imagine with BMW using magnesium in their engines, the block will still be relatively light. Not only that, but the HP boost would likely solve added weight issues. Same with the lower end 3s.

The V8 is 4.2L I believe and derived from the M5’s V10, which is pretty light

I think the new gen of BMW’s are the ugliest group of vehicles ever produced. honestly. They may have engines of gold, but if you can’t stand to look at the hood….

The 2008 C63 AMG is going to annihilate this thing. Most real life racing is done on the street: light to light. The C63 is going to kill the M3 with its monster torque and horsepower advantage.

im sure newbies have asked this question before but what purpose does BMW have in driving this M3, which is not yet released to the public, on the streets of CA? This is a legitimate question, i’m not just trying to sound like a smart @$$.

Jeez, its amazing how absolutely putrid bimmers get with each model. Audi, and Mercedes Benz AMG will completely destroy this car. Only yuppies who THINK they can drive will want that POS.

Comparing a 6.3L engine with a 4.2L engine is not really fair, its like saying a Enzo would out run a Chevy. Unless of course, the C63 AMG is the same price if not cheaper than the M3, then its a fair comparison.

Hey BMW, you keep raising that rear end up and you can save the cost of having a rear window. I guess if i drove such an ugly car, i’d hate to look outside too…

The reason I put GM on that list was because of their V-SERIES caddies & the CORVETTE.
Do you guys think I gave them too much credit?

Werner, it may be a current 3 series with the new body or it’s someone at BMW showcasing the M sport package. Anything is possible, I do not believe that’s really an M3. E46 needs to stay.

i dunno if anyone is going to even read this but i saw this yesterday and got a little excited. I am nto sure how i feel abotu teh design

but this morning on my way to work (in los angeles) I SAW IT.. i was like NO WAY.. NO F-ING WAY.. and it looked identical to the pix i that were posted.

i was suprised only becuase jimmy540 beloved by the bimmer community and i know that there have been ficticious posts before but the verdict is still out but the car was a BEAST!!!

It is a test mule.. The pictures were taken in So-Cal where this car can be seen on a regular basis. Did you think BMW would release a car without testing it first? Also, BMWs are about more than just straight line performance.. Put that front heavy AMG piece of crap into some turns with the M3 and we’ll see what happens..

Come on guys, I’m not THE expert on M but I did have an 02 M3 for four years and it should be obvious that this is not an M3 based on one thing missing. The side gills. Even the first spy photos of the new M3 had these (although covered up).
