At Alfa Romeo’s 100th birthday celebration in Milan last week, the automaker celebrated its heritage and promoted its Giulietta compact car, but it didn’t talk much about its future plans. That didn’t stop one creative Czech from creating his own Alfa Romeo SUV, however.
We’ll publish a full report of Alfa Romeo’s 100th anniversary celebrations soon, but for now our man on the scene just sent over a handful of photos of an “Alfa Romeo Kamal” SUV. Apparently the collaboration of a secret project between BMW and Alfa Romeo, the crossover combines the best of both worlds: Awkward Teutonic style and haphazard Italian quality.
The Kamal in question isn’t the real thing, of course. That nameplate, which was used on a 2003 concept SUV, is likely to formally bow within a year as a production crossover. This “Kamal” is instead a rather curiously rebadged and taped-off BMW X1 from the Czech Republic. Interestingly, Alfa Romeo’s security staff allowed the vehicle to park among the other 2,600 more authentic examples of the marque that gathered in Milan for the festivities.
Stay tuned for more from the automaker’s 100th birthday party.
