Sean, the M division is binning its traditions in the interest of cashing in on the brand, Given their recent releases I can’t see that they would value their NA history any longer either. The M3 is overweight and as a result overpowered to the detriment of the driving experience. Both the M3 and the M5 are no longer focused driving machines: they are distraction-crammed luxury saloons with plush interiors and weight-saving measures as an afterthought, not a design philosophy. The fact that they would even consider an M7 confirms this.

It a car built to kill the Audi RS6 with gets 600bhp. This will probably churn out around 600-620 bhp. No manual as there is no manual that could handle the sort of torque this engine will put out.

Next up a Mercedes E63 twin turbo?

I love how you people are already assuming a 600hp M5 can take on the Z06 when the new 600hp Viper is only a hair faster. Read “The Rematch” in the Oct 2007 issue of Car and Driver.

This horsepower war is nuts. I must be getting old. But when it takes a minimum of 500hp just to get your foot into this door, that’s just over the top. There is no place on this earth where that kind of power can be used safely on the street.

Where will it all end? Anybody taking bets on when somebody will build a production car with 1000hp? (NOT tuners)

I suppose it would be cool to have a sedan that could scare exotics jaguar. (and i know, the z06 isn’t an exotic, it just performs like one.) It would also be fun to surprise some ricers in one too.

The M5 is always the HEAVIEST 5-series. This has been the case for the E28, E34, E39, and the E60. They try to stuff as much stuff as technology in them and end up gaining weight. That’s why I will always buy the lower end 5-series and modify from there.

Damn. I hope this isn’t true. I know some of you dissagree, but, when the twin turbo 335 news busted loose I cringed. Even though there insn’t noticable lag in the powerband, plus there is a huge flat torque streek starting @1400 RPM’s(!), and it’s won award after award, I hate the thought of BMW using turbo’s. BMW injects “balance” in every car they build and that’s why I’m a huge fan. N/A engines have always been a large reason to justify that perfect balance. You know where I’m going right. I don’t know, I guess BMW has the fuel consumption issue to look out for, and turbo’s can respond well to electronics, but negatively they ad weight and I’m affraid BMW will get lazy. I know you think they won’t but look at the new 3 series. It is beautiful in every way but it has altered from the small,light weight,ultra responsive car it was meant to be(BMW 2002). And there is now denying that fact that the 335’s oil temp. gets VERY high thanks to the communication between the two turbo’s when you push it. I’m just saying it’s all about “balance”. I want that to stay. I don’t believe the M7 nameplate. M for motorsport=more than just HP gains. M cars hare thoroughly bred for the track and I don’t see this car existing there. Legion’s of 7 series cars and no M7. Why now? just get an m5. Because you know that an m7 would only be offered in the short wheelbase chassis. But unlike some people on here, I don’t know how to run a car company. Only one way to find out. Wait.

So what if the M3 has gone from 4 to 6 to 8, or the M5 has gone from 6 8 and now 10. There’s still plenty of room to create bigger engines with more power without going turbo or simply develop light weight technologies like the new M3’s CFRP roof become cheaper to make. Adding lighter stronger materials is what is going to start working for BMW while other competitors might start creating cars w/ so much power the wheels can’t even hold on to it.

I’m thinking the M division will adapt to competitors’ challenges and buyers’ demands in their unique way. The M3 went from 4 to 6 to 8 cylinders and the M5 went from 6 to 8 to 10 cylinders. Mercedes has really tried to make the AMG models better driver’s cars, and is not shy about saying the new C63 is a good competitor to the new M3. Audi is using Lambo V-10’s. All the competition has led to some very unique and passionate products. I’ve died and gone to heaven!

Sean here has a point. I wouldn’t take the M-division for using turbos either. AMG has gone au natural and ditched superchargers.

That’s a very good point L-88. Although I’m sure with it being an “M”, it will be slightly lighter than the base model. I didn’t think about the weight difference. It would still be interesting to have a 4-door that could come at least come close to a Z06. That would mean that it could beat just about everything else on the streets. The new Corvettes are too commonplace anyways. I prefer slightly more exotic cars. I rarely have to listen to somebody tell me that they saw four of those yesterday (referring to my car, of course).

Anyone who believes BMW is going to stick turbos on an M car obviously knows nothing about the M Division. They build their cars to a high revving spec, never rely on forced induction and said in order to continue to fight competitors with higher horsepower they will focus on cutting weight instead.

Maybe an old z06, but not the new one jaguar. Sure it may have 100 more horses, but it also has another 1000 pounds to carry around. Plus with the 09 vettes expecting to carry over 600 hp…

Aston, does BMW really have to prove superiority over GM? It’s the other way around, GM has to prove superiority over everyone else, and these days they’re all wrapped up with marques like Honda and Volkswagen.

BMW is obviously doing this to prove its superiority over GM once and for all. This will have between 560 and 600 hp. Simply insane. I would want something quiet, comfortable and fairly economical like my XJ for everyday travel and something light and stiff for blasting around in (like a Lotus). A BMW M5 Turbo would be like both of these put together!

Hood looks fine, check the seams along the fenders. Looks to me like the bumper cover is not fitted correctly…check the seam under the lights…angled down possible due to the fmic.

BTW, I wonder why they’ve caught the twin turbo and the “M7″ together, maybe BMW is planning on sharing the same engine. M7 big boy with a 600hp twin turbo V10? Or an M5 CSL with a twin turbo v10? God…. please make a M5 CSL Twin turbo v10.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD match it with a MANUAL transmission BMW. You can do it! My paddle shifters are great on a track but in traffic I always end up driving an automatic, and I’ve been in the track ONCE since my delivery.
