Spy photographers have spotted a prototype for the upcoming Hyundai i10. Set to launch by the end of this year, the i10 will replace the Atos micro van which has been on sale in the European market since 1997. However, the i10 will still be produced in India.
Buyers will be able to choose from three engines to power the front-drive i10: a 1.1 gasoline engine rated at 65 horsepower, a 1.1 liter diesel rated 75 hp and a 1.2 liter gasoline engine — producing 80 horsepower — which will join the lineup shortly after the car’s debut.

The good news are engines, especially the diesel. Per spec it generates more ponies then same size Otto, which is amazing. Even more amazing from the company which 15 years ago was using engines from Mitsubishi, since they did not have engine design department of their own. Since no one tried any of those engines, it all may be pretty spec and atrocious execution, but perseverance does counts in my book

First you want to be luxury..no you build bite-sized pieces of ****. At least make it look half-good like the Sonata and Santa Fe

Small car is essential b/c of gas price. I don’t see why a car company can’t make a small subcompact and luxury RWD sedan. Having a diversified product line can’t be bad.

It is about perception. In today’s market perception is everything. Look at why people buy Japanese cars. Because they are told that Jap cars are green and reliable and so on. In addition, they are told that domestic cars are trash. They buy into it. Perception is key (a lot of people buy a BMW over a Lexus because BMW has a long standing perception of being a status-symbol although the Lexus in some cases MIGHT actually be the better car). Many cars are better for the environment than the Prius yet because of the Prius’s “I AM GREEN!!” image, people buy it over the better choices (Source: http://www.whatcar.com/news-article.aspx?NA=228254) Look at the effects of halo cars like the Prius, Corvette, and R8. Small cars sold by near luxury/luxury brands in my opinion is like selling anti-halo cars = bad.
We should be seeing Kia prototypes tested cars like these, not Hyundai who is trying to be more uplevel

It’ll be interesting to see how Hyundai position the two brands. Potentially, Kia can be either the sporty brand or the less-luxury brand.
Sure Hyundai is trying to move up-market, but it may be too soon to predict whether it is worth it to ditch the small cars or leave them to Kia. Genesis is one model out of a whole line up right now, although if it is successful, we may see a new Genesis brand in the future.
The current Getz has been toe to toe with the Jazz/Fit and Yaris/Vitz in Australia. So while the U.S. operation is trying to grow up, Hyundai may not want to do the same down under or in Europe where the cultures are very different. Remember this car will NOT come to the U.S.A.

True, but Hyundai has to decide what it wants to be. It is the face of Hyundai Auto Group, but does it want to be the mainstream brand that goes head to head with Toyonda and Chevy and Ford? Or does it want to be like Chrysler where it is a notch above mainstream and offers a little more style and luxury than the sea of volume cars. They also should create the Genesis as a seperate brand like I have been saying in order to successfully enter the luxury market. Lastly, they have to decide the focus of Kia. Is it mainstream like Chevy or sporty like Pontiac or is it like Saturn……??? That is Hyundai’s one big problem - its brands have not yet defined themselves completely

Commodore: BMW is always the better car.
A=(any carmaker) B=BMW
B>A
Hyundai should do this
Kia= cheap, good-values
Hyundai=bread and butter, mainstream
Genesis= Luxury (Not rebadged Sonatas and Santa Fes, but real Luxury cars)
