Someone said X3, but interesting enough, I actually see the new Hyundai Santa Fe in those headlights. Looks like it’ll be nicer than anything in Ford’s current stable. I’m not really in love with the Edge, but this works well.

This looks good, but it is similar to the Edge, Mazda CX-7, the upcoming “Murano Jr.”, etc. I think it would sell, but I think the ‘05 Bronco would sell as fast as Ford could make it. It’s different – very stylish and bold, yet practical. Does anyone know why they did not/have not/will not build it?

The “new” Escape and Tribute, despite Ford’s marketing maching claiming otherwise, are basically warmed-over versions of the previous model with heavily modified (but strikingly similar looking) bodyshells — so it would make sense that a Mazda CX-looking small ute, whether Mazda- or EuroFord-based, would replace them very soon. What wouldn’t make sense is the Euro arm developing this similarly-sized SUV and not sharing it with the US.

mujician: Of course there are worse SUV’s out there, I just included some direct competitors to the Escape. The Trooper? Are you serious? Yes, I know the Trooper has AWFUL rollover problems, but it’s certainly not a small SUV, and it certainly isn’t competing w/ the Escape now is it? If I was to include all SUV’s with rollover problems, I’d have the Mitsubishi Montero in there too, but they aren’t in the same market segment. I actually display proof that 4 or so small SUV’s are better than the Escape in this regard, and while you say the Xterra is actually worse, I beg to differ, because while the Xterra has a higher % probability of rolling over, by 1% actually, it didn’t physically tip up in the test while the Escape did, which I consider a more significant sign of a safety problem than a 1% difference in probability of a rollover. The fact that the Escape is the ONLY small SUV that I found that actually tipped up in the test, and the one w/ the second highest % probability of a rollover speaks MILES about how unsafe it is as a vehicle, especially the tip up part.

Look at the rollover ratings of all compact Suv’s, you failed to point out the yes the CRV is better, but the rest of the group are worse. X-terra, Trooper, Liberty come on! And besides if your worried about rollovers, that kindof leaves you out of looking for a 4×4 doesn’t it? Give me one good rollover rating on a 4×4, and no awd, I mean 4×4.

19%, 23%, 24%… I feel safe already. I never meant to suggest the CR-V had a worse score, but while the Escape might be 20% more likely to roll using those absolute numbers, the CR-V and Escape are 2+ times more likely to roll than other capable wagons! BOTH vehicles are too likely to roll. My point is you said safety concerns knocked out the Escape, but if you were really worried about safety, it would knock out the old CR-V and Xterra as well. Of note, the new CR-V and Escape should both be solidly 4s – much safer than their old iterations. The Escape’s RSC is one of the best out there and both offer curtain airbags to protect people during rollover.

I have no particular desire to ever own an Escape and believe, especially now, that there are better options in its class, but I’m making sure that you are fair to all competitors – not just the Hondas/Toyotas/Nissans… Just checking.

Well one thing I hate is when people choose to hate cars because they say Ford or GMC etc. Just because a certin badge is on a car doesn’t mean that it is atomaticly a horrible car. BMW has come out with flops before in it’s lifetime along with Merc. I’m not pointing any-one person here, I’m talking about everone with a biased opinion. Sure I have my fav car, but I love and respect all different designs for cars. Not many people out there know what it takes to build a car, they just say stuff like, It should be like this or that so on and so forth. Ok fine, do it yourself. See if any car company out there will buy your design. So instead of putting it down when you can’t even clearly see what it truly is, keep an open mind and hope for something exciting.
Oh and 04focus
about that X3 comment. I work for BMW and I know what you mean by that. first thing I thought of. lol

You’re wrong. According to the NHTSA, the Ford Focus has a 23% chance of rolling over, while the Honda CR-V has a 19% chance of rolling over. Numbers do not lie. You, my friend, are dead wrong. Oh, and did I mention that in the NHTSA’s tests of the Ford Escape and the Honda CR-V and Nissan XTerra resulted in only one of those vehicles actually tipping up during the test? Well it’s true. The Escape was no more likely to roll than the Xterra or the CR-V (before the redesign). In larger classes the 4Runner and Pathfinder were dangerous roll-over cases as well. Most of Escape’s terrible “it will roll-over and kill you” perception came from, I think, CR (or some equivalent) who published that the Escape had a high likelihood of roll-over, which is true, but neglected to include that information on its competitors who had equally bad chances of rolling over. I mean, if you include risk of roll-over as a factor in your purchase decision in small SUVs, up until 2006, you didn’t have ANYTHING to choose from.

“iosis-x-based”? It has nothing in common with the concept. Styling wise the middle of the car looks similar to the C-Max (which is based on the Euro Focus 2). If they don’t use a new platform, I think it’s the one from the Focus. It could also be based on the S-Max/Galaxy, but I guess it’s a bit too small for that.

It did just that, had a tendency to roll over, that alone would eliminate it from my shopping list immediately, it invalidates almost all of its other positive attributes. It’s also too bad the new Escape looks like something out of the 90’s

Acyually, for you bias assholes that only talk **** and don’t know your product. That Escape has been a class leader for the past O’since it came out. And know it has an incredible sound system, alot quieter interior, smoother shifting, new audio and temp control buttons, and re-styled. The Five hundred is not only going to be rebadged but re-styled exterior, 3.5 V6, and some interior updates, even though I don’t know the exact details on that. The Focus is going to be totally re-designed with new exterior, new interior, Ford’s new SYNC communications system, actually a rather impressive offering. The Edge and Fusion are not only doing well but, outselling their objectives. The Expedition, Navigator have been re-designed this year, itroducing new EL and L versions. Yes they are dropping the Towncar, but replacing it with the MKS and furhter down the road the MKR. Concepts no-one must have thought of before making their smug, comments. O’yeah the Intercepter,Super Chief, Reflex???? The F150, Mustang are going to be redesign in the next year, hmmm, I wonder why no-one has heard much about those two top selling model lines? Anyway for all you stupid moronic bastards, just wait. Not only do I think for is not going to be taking anymore loss’ but they will once again, or I should say always have been contenders.

That thing is kinda fugly, and the people of Ford NA are bretty much destroying what used to be a great manufactering company. However I think the 2 guys driving in this car wanted their faces to be pixeled out, I wouldnt want to be seen driving this.

I find it really strange that Ford of America is sinking faster than the Titanic, yet there has been no exciting product out of the US arm….but in Europe, they get a new Mondeo, have had a new Focus, this new thing, and more exciting products down the pipe. When is Ford NA going to have some new product to show us??? I mean a rebadged Five Hundred (Taurus, who cares) a redo of the Focus AGAIN, even thoguh the Escape is new, it looks more or less a facelift. The Fusion and Edge where 2 good signs, then this rehash stuff has come out. I think maybe Ford outta start giving some sneek peeks or teasers of what is to come because so far I am not impressed with the American stuff they are offering.

The Edge is actually quite nice. It needs a diet, but other than that I’m rather impressed with it. It’s certainly at or near the top of its class in almost every area (at least until the new Highlander and Murano come out).

This looks smaller though, more like a CR-V/Rav4 size. I just wish they’d bring it to America and replace the Escape. The new update will work for about 6 months, and then the Escape will be irrelevant.

Come on Ford! Give us some product!
