Spied: Mercedes E63 AMG? S6 Avant…

New spy photos suggest Mercedes may be ready to drop its new AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine into the E-Class sooner than expected. Previously, most observers believed the the engine wouldn’t debut in the current E-Class, but rather would arrive as an option on the the next-generation model. New spy photos, however, suggest the engine may appear in a facelifted version of the current “E.” Similarly, a report in November said Mercedes was considering building a C63 AMG based on the current C-Class. It’s possible the the E-Class shown in today’s photos is simply a testbed for the new engine, but given the updated bodywork it seems Mercedes is planning to give the current “E” one last boost. Perhaps Mercedes is scrambling to build this new hotrod E-Class to combat the BMW M5 and M5 Touring. Also spied is the new Audi A6 Avant, another hotrod wagon designed to compete with M5 Touring. Recently, we brought you an A6 Avant computer rendering.
