I think there is a need for a roomy, versitile, compact, and fuel efficient AWD vehicle to replace the now mega-morphed Rav 4. THe Vibe could be that, but I like the higher road position of the old RAV 4.
HP is a good thing but anything over 175 for a vehicle of this type and size is needlessly burning fuel.

This the best car in Pontiacs stable since they dropped the GTO. Everything else is just forgettable rebadged Chevy’s.

NUMMI mainly builds Corollas and Tacos. Seeing as how Toyota is prepping their new Corolla and Corolla wagon (possibly without the Matrix name) right now for sales at the end of winter, I wouldn’t expect anything less than a redesigned, rebadged Pontiac.

A pity the AWD Vibe version went away, and that the earlier AWD versions were linked to an underpowered, droning motor.

NUMI was responsible for the Vibe (built in Fremont, Ca), a joint operation between GM and Toyota. They also built the Chevy Prism.

I hate to say it but the Vibe’s are decent enough cars and they do what they were designed for. Like someone said they aren’t marketed to car guys, I would say they are marketed to younger females.

Although it’s hard to tell from the heavy camo covering the car in the pictures – it looks like they have simply removed the usless roof racks – which was about the only difference between the original Vibe and the Matrix other than the nameplate and the front grill.

For those of you hating the Vibe/Matrix the design is clearly one of the most popular and functional on the road. I agree that they need to keep the AWD version I know some Matrix AWDs that are getting 30+ mpg. These cars are a huge hit with younger drivers…

It’s still a ghetto piece of ****, thats Pontiac problem these days they seem to be catering to the hiphop crowd in a behind the scenes secret way. Unfortunately my local pontiac dealer seems to be a haven for blacks when I go there I encounter alot of black people. At least at chevrolet I know there will be white people.

Well, Too bad some of you do not like it.
My wife was shopping a Wagon last month, and she test drove the Mazda 3, Vibe, Matrix, PT and HHR

She bought the HHR.. She says its quiter and smoother than any of the rest. Plus she likes the SUV like seating, so she is on the same level with a typical minivan driver on the road.
The trunk space on the HHR is also better and interior is quiter… Great music system too!

I Think the Vibe will do well.

I always found the Vibe to be extremely attractive, for what it is. Odd too, in the sense that its fraternal twin, the Matrix, has typically Toyota hideous: overwrought, unbalanced, grotesque. And odd as well in that Pontiac’s best looking car (when it rolled out) was really a Toyota. Amazing what GM designers can do with a decent platform and manufacturing abilities.

I am glad to hear that they are not discontinuing it. I think the Vibe could bring a lot of non-GM owners into the fold, if they’d just put some marketing bucks behind it.

The Vibe is one ot Pontiac’s best selling models, and it’e better to get than the Matrix because (subjectively) the Vibe has better styling and (objectively) you get more options, plus you’re able to bargain better because it’s harder to haggle for a Toyota.

You all hate this car – that’s fine. Trust me, it isn’t being marketed to you. My girlfriend has one and while it doesn’t tear up any track or look particularly striking on the outside, it is an EXTREMELY functional vehicle that drives well in the snow and actually has a pretty neat interior. Nice sound system too. This vehicle is definitely more appealing to women though, as most women value practicality over styling and performance, and this is a very functional crossover.

I’m actually a bit surprised to see a redesign. I hadn’t seen much advertising for the Vibe so I just assumed it was a floundering model. It’s obviously doing well enough to warrant some time & effort. I’m curious to know if this new Vibe will be based off the new Toyota Matrix/Corolla platform, as was this model.
