Spied: Toyota Sequoia

06/29/2007, 3:41 PM

By Andrew Ganz

Spy photographers caught two versions of the 2008 or ‘09 Toyota Sequoia wrapped in only modest camouflage. These photos give us the best view of both the SR5 and uplevel Limited trims, including a glance at the dashboard and interior.

Toyota’s large SUV has been largely unchanged since its 2001 introduction, but the Tundra pickup-based three-row Sequoia has been thoroughly revised. The new Sequoia you see pictured below is based on the new Tundra, introduced for ‘07, and is expected to include the pickup’s 4.7 and 5.7 liter V8 engines. The truck is slated to start production at the end of this year at Toyota’s Princeton, Indiana, plant, and it will likely be formally introduced at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. It is not yet known whether Toyota will call the new SUV a ‘08 or ‘09.

From the photos, we can see that the Limited likely augments the SR5 with 18″ wheels, chrome mirrors and a likely optional night vision camera system. It also appears that the Limited will offer the same, distinctive Red Rock leather that’s optional on the Tundra Limited.

Sources say that the new Sequoia will be larger than the current model in order to compete better against GM’s Tahoe and Yukon.

This one though is just FUGLY! The front-end looks the same as their pick-up line, and that’s a horrible design to follow.

Looks like the Sequoia got into the Tundra’s steroids.

Seriously, these vehicles are trying to be something they’re not. The Tundra’s drivetrain is so refined but they ruin it with the wannabe tough-guy looks. It looks like this one is gonna be the same way.

Stop it! Just stop producing these oversize, worthless, behemoths! Why are vehicles like this still in production? How is it that people in Europe manage just fine without these wastes of space, but can still get their home improvement projects done and tow their camping trailers and boats to the beach? Oh yeah, diesels.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Very entertaining posts whenever a bit of Toyota news come in.

If this same car rolled out with a Ford, GM, or Chrysler badge on it you’d all be down on you’re knees in front of it, no matter how much of a gas guzzler it was.

There’s a reason why Toyotas are selling so well. Maybe you all are just retarded. Time to pull your stubborn heads out of your stubborn asses.

Guys, watch out for Piablo. I discovered that if he disagrees with you or loses and argument, he emails the LLN staff and files a complaint, which results in actually a ban on the username.

Not going to stop anyone from using a new handle, but now we know we have a welching baby on our hands.

Good job Piablo, the problem is about to get 1000 times worse now. Watch what you say, because the next wrong comment is going to result in a barrage of complaints to the staffers here. Good precedent you’ve set.

The Tundra has not been an immediate success. The poor thing has a Tundra front end. Bad move Toyota. You should have used the front end of the Lexus LX. No one will notice.. Toyota and Lexus buyers do not cross shop.

LOL! Nice post CTS Driver. I got a good chuckle out of that.

Hey, if the Sequoia looks like the Tundra, it will probably be a fairly good looking vehicle. I would still buy a Tahoe any day of the week over any of it’s competition though. Gas “guzzling”… so what. If gas was not more expensive than it was 4 years ago, this would be a non-issue. How many people went out and paid $600 for an iPhone this past weekend? Apparently, we Americans can indeed afford $3/gallon.

Deanster aka Deantj, don’t blame me for your vulgarities… Try taking a bit of responsibility for what you post here. I’m sure the rest of your life would improve as a result. I think your language speaks for itself, they don’t need me reporting it. Keep it up, and I’m sure your “Deanster” profile will be banned also. Are you smart enough to change your ways? We shall see.

Word up ‘Horse’. Can’t say I enjoy it, but I’ve learned to accept it. Gas prices are not going down anytime soon and will continue to rise. And the need for large SUVs will not be going away either. So barring some sort of engineering marvel or some miracle in Congress that repeals some of the constraining design mandates to the auto industry, it will remain as such. So the way I see it, if gas prices are hitting you in the pocket book, time to trim out some of those financial expenditures like the latest and greatest cell phone. Or maybe the new XBox game. Or whatever else people waste money on. It’s kinda like the fat person complaining about their weight, while they’re stuffing their face with a cup cake.

“and why does Yota get a free pass to build BIGGER trucks than the big 3″

Maybe because they can? Maybe because we live in a capitalist society? Maybe because consumers want options?

Anyway- to many Americans, “gas-guzzling” means nothing. You’re not gonna get hybrid to tow your ass out of the snow, now, are you? I personally think the American preoccupation with size is ridiculous (I’m a Republican, don’t get me wrong), yet there will always be a NEED for these huge SUVs.

I just think it’s hilarious that many people on this site bash Toyota on this site without reason. They call Toyota boring (IMO- I’ve never seen a more boring series of trucks than the GMs). I love how some ignorant people on here basically say “Even if Toyota/Lexus made the best car in the world, I’d still never buy one because I’m an ignorant Big3phile.”

Another vehicle to watch out for.. I’m just curious of what other feature did they incorporated with this new Sequoia? Will it have new accessories like Toyota nerf bars – http://www.autotoyparts.com/toyota-nerf-bars/ – ? How about its performance and handling? Though I don’t like its tires… its kinda too big… Hope to see more info and reviews about this one,.

I’d buy one, if I somehow discovered that. As for now, I’m never buying another Toyota. So, first, they’d have to make this “best car in the world,” then, re-earn my trust.

Piablo.
I think $2.75 is the FLOOR for gas prices in Southern California. The oil companies have realized thet people will pay $3.33, so they’re going to try to keep prices as close to there as possible, until some phantom price agitator pops up. Then, who knows.

I just want to say to most of the people who left comments before me… That first of all if you knew anything about toyota’s our 5.7 liter V8 not only delivers 381hp and is the fastest in the class at 0-60 in 6.4 seconds, but also is paired with a class changing 6 speed transmission. Which delivers 20 miles to the gallon or better. I want to see your american full size trucks and suv’s do that. Also you comment on how it looks like our tundra, look at the damn tahoe the inside is so unrefined, the trucks interior looks f’ing better. However if you “american car people” want to loose and throw away money keep going with a chevy, dodge and ford. Just dont come to a toyota dealership when you finally become a smart consumer and complain because we give you the same amount in trade in on a $40,000 expedition or tahoe as the person next to you trading in a 1988 toyota corolla. There no such thing as a dumb toyota buyer. You will get it one day. Dont worry.
