turbo lag vs. the instantaneous torque of higher displacement v8

better to tune?
a pre-tuned, “pre-modded”, pre-everything is better to tune?
or do you mean easier, just crank the boost and blow up your engine?
a naturally aspriated v8 leaves EVERYTHING to be determined, including adding your own turbo.

compare it to a corvette over an rs4? what planet do you come from? i imagine it is somewhere in the hill country of appalachia. the rest of the world could give a **** about what NASCAR fans are interested in.

Just read in car and driver or some big car mag that the new 335 ci will have a twin turbo. Check it out, forgot what mag, but saw it april 10th in airport, mag says small letters on bottom, BMW somethin or other.

While it is hard to make out details of the car, a couple of cool things are obvious:

- Wicked wide front fenders
- Deeply recessed headlights
- Racier side profile/roof line than I expected, seemingly putting this more in the sports coupe category than the current model, which is more coupe variant of sedan feeling

Pretty impressive. This looks like it will be far more desirable than the M5 which, while it looks great in photos where you can pour over details, hasn’t impressed me on the street as being that much more special than a 550I.

The 2008 M3 will definately be a NA V8. BMW does not have a V6 engine.

Forced induction is cool…though I’ve never owned a blown car. This is a cool a$% car hands down. Traditions are meant to be broken and are what hold us back in certain cases.

I don’t see why it is out of the question. There is always a first for something. Besides, a turbocharged V6 would generally be alot lighter than a V8, probably have better response, better to tune, and maybe be more fuel efficient. As far as the Rs4 being direct competition, I think the M3 as a Performance car has too focus more on other cars like the C6 Corvette. That’ll be the first car they compare it with when it is released, not the Audi. American Muscle Vs German Muscle.

A turbocharged powerplant is absolutely out of the question. The M series is all about NA horsepower and using a turbo wouldn’t make sense. It would also differentiate the car from the Audi RS4 that is it’s direct competition. This beast of a car will have a V8….and it will be beautiful

Talk on the big BMW fan boards is that the convertible often lags introduction after the coupe by about 6 months, then the M3 about 6 months later.

So, by this tradition, we’re looking at the M3 being a ‘08 model, indroduced here late ‘07 at the earliest …

I’d love to see BMW accellerate this models introductions. How many companies routinely spread the introduction of varients over almost 2-3 years of a model cycle? Don’t they loose business or dollars while probable M3 buyers hold off current purchases waiting for the new model, or does it just have people frothing at the mouth, pent up waiting?

I guess the later if they keep doing it. It’s one of the problems of success .

Nice, hopefully they put the Twin Turbo V6 in here instead of the V8. Having a turbocharged V6 will allow for greater access to extra power
