Lets all clarify to LamborghiniZ that this is definitely a clone of the G35 coupe. I have been driving a G35 coupe every day for the past 3 years. This car is without a doubt stemming from the G35 and looks absolutely nothing like an RSX, BTW. I too, think it will be a great addition to the nissan lines. The accord coupe and the Solora are basically built for women. This car will give them hell! Yes, the pictures are new and a little grainy, but come on…I have to go with the obvious here. And, for those of you who are concerned with the back seat of the G35, it’s really spacious for what it is (roomier than a sentra I find) and besides that, it’s a sports car, not an economy car. As far as the domestic lines…who cares…they’re garbage!

No matter what anyone says, I think it will be a great addition to the Nissan family. There are a lot of Nissan in my family, so I know that they’re great cars. I was planning on getting a G35 one day in the future. I can’t afford a new one just yet so I was going to save up for a used one. But if Nissan is making a cheaper look-a-like, I wouldn’t mind saving a few pennies and getting a new Altima Coupe. I have no problem with the copy. If you are going to copy, why not copy the best? I know some may not agree. But we all have our opinions. I really don’t think it will hurt Nissan, It will just give those who can’t afford a G, the opportunity to at least come close to owning one.

Come on guys.. it doesn’t take much photo analysis to see the front wheel placement is behind the engine compartment, not pushed to the front corners like the G35, so FWD is practically a given. Speculation that this coupe will be based on the RWD G35 platform is wishful thinking at best.. it looks a whole lot like the Azeal concept (which was based on the Sentra platform) but upsized to the Altima platform.

I actually don’t know what to think about this car in terms of making any kind of predictions about it.

On the one hand, if I assume that it is just a coupe version of the Altima then it’s pretty much guaranteed to be FWD and I would bet that it would probably come with (or at least be available with) the 265hp V6 in the Altima SE-R. It might even stand to reason that Nissan would release a slightly sportier version of the same package for the coupe. Like, say, I dunno, an SE-R Spec V.

The one thing that’s bugging me, however, is how much this car looks like a G35. Maybe it’s not an Altima at all, and is based off the G35. While I agree that a Nissan version of that car, with a high output 4 cylinder, perhaps, would be a killer in the marketplace, I think it’s pretty unlikely.

I sure hope those training wheels make it into production.

THANK YOU NISSAN for a nice looking coupe. The thing I like most about Nissan is their newest styling scheme. (Personally, I’m determined to get a G35 6MT.. with the Brembos in 08). Honda and Toyota tried too hard with their latest coupes. Anybody remember the 2000 (or so) years Accord coupe and Solara? Both had clean lines and strong/sporty stances. Honda’s subtle implementation of the NSX tailights was beautiful. Meanwhile, Toyota was one of the only car manufacturers to put euro lights on the Solara, and not look so damn ricey.
The next installment of each car looked like SHIT, from the bubbly, bugeyed Accord to the mutant ladybug Solara. Let me quickly add that I am a… supporter of the Pontiac G6 coupe. I think it looks nice. And right now, it, and this Altima coupe are hands down the nicest looking for this market, at this price range. Knowing that this is from Nissan, you’d almost expect performance numbers analogous to the Z (in the Z’s market).
Seeing the success of having both an Altima and Maxima, without each car stepping on the other’s toes, I’d like to see a Maxima coupe as well. As long as there is a justifiable performance increase for the extra price, I could see Nissan cleaning up with this. Throw 280-300HP in the Maxima, and place it right in line for buyers. Altima coupe -> Maxima coupe -> G35. That combination can effectively be more viscious than Ipod and Itunes.

It’s different 90Z, the domestic manufacturers’ products are bad to begin with, then they clone them over 2, 3, 4, even 5 or more lines, and they’ve just spread the terrible product even more, when it should have never been made to begin with (i.e. Chevy Trailblazer). They often do nothing more than change the badge on the car, not differentiating the vehicles at ALL, also, you have no right to say shit about this car looking like the G35, these are unnoficial pictures to begin with, and they’re blurry to add to it, so shut your ass up and learn something about cars, and wait to see some real pictures before making ridiculous statements

i think both 6ix and sampson have valid points. Yes this coupe is perfect for the market Nissan is aiming for.. but as for sampson.. if Nissan had that under-25k RWD coupe (not convertible, eulgh) and make it much more refined than say, a scion TC, putting it somewhere in the RSX range, only bigger, a a winner would be on their hands.

6ix: Yeah, I don’t get it either. I wouldn’t mind the 300 hp, I don’t “need” RWD. I think you hit it on the head, too, with the idea that consumers want sporty looks AND a back seat/trunk that is actually functional. Just because you need the room doesn’t mean you want to be stuck driving something like the Ford 500 or a mini-van.

First off I’d like to thank nissan for not neglecting the coupe market… Most automakers these days don’t have the balls to even create a coupe… It’s a complaint I hear daily… There are no coupes anymore… That said, It would be nice if they made this car the lighter, more fuel efficient version of the G35… you know, with RWD… The first automaker that puts out a 2+2 RWD coupe, that doesn’t weigh over 3100 lbs and priced below 25000 will reap the rewards…

Why does it need to be RWD and have 300 ponies? Be just fine with a 220-240 V6, like the Accord. Something else to consider is that the G35 coupe (and 350Z, TT, Eclipse) have a joke for a rear seat. in an accord coupe, you can actually sit people back there. Fold down the rear seats and there’s a lot of cargo room. For active, young professional adults, these larger coupes are essentially sporty version of the sedan equivelant, without a real loss of space.

I’ve looked at the G35 coupe and TT. There’s no flippin’ way a bike is going in there. With an Accord coupe, or even a Civic coupe, you can pop the front wheel off and throw the bike in the trunk. Rear seats have to folded down, but still it’s roomy enough.

I just hope the interior doesn’t have the controls looking like buttons from a 1980′s era VCR. Hate that look.

BAMF: That was my point. I don’t want all the vehicles to look the same. It’s possible to have a brand with variety of style, etc. I prefer variety because then there’s usually something that everyone can like (or dislike as the case may be). If all the vehicles look the same, then why have several versions? And what happens if you don’t happen to like the “one” style the manufacturer produces? The G35 is a hot car, no doubt, but I still I don’t see why the Altima needs to look just like it. Too cookie-cutter for me.

BTW…have you looked at Chrysler/Dodge lately? Almost all of the vehicles have the same front end & boxy styling. And Ford’s SUVs & trucks seem to be smaller & larger versions of the same thing, too (i.e. Explorer & Expedition).

And 90Z, when was the last time that one of the big three made a bunch of cars that look similar? Thats one of my biggest criticisms of the big three is that they dont have an image for their brand that all the cars fit into. They all look like completely seperate ideas.

Adam T: Yeah, I agree the many versions of the blah 360/370 platforms were pretty stupid (TrailBlazer/EXT, Envoy/Envoy XL, Isuzu Ascender, Buick Rainier, Olds Bravada, Saab 9-7X, etc). My point was that if I’m paying for something like an A8, it by God better not look like the cheaper A4, if you know what I mean.

ohh, and there’s no comparing this to the the deficit, the whole annual Federal budget is about 2 Trillion dollars; about twice what it was in 2001. However, tax revenues are way higher too, hence the deficit is only about $250 Million anually. Our GDP has increased substantially during the period since 2001, probably due to the tax cuts that so many love to hate. Let’s face it, taxes went down, the economy grew and tax revenues grew too. The problem is that expenditures grew too, dramatically. War does that to governments.

Not bad looking. I like it more than the Solara although both of them trounce the G6 with the ratty interior. I still like the Accord 6-speed V6 coupe the best though. Great interior, decent handling and musclecar power with an oh so nice manual.

Give it a 6-speed with about 250hp and you’ll sell a bunch of them. Would love to see a Fusion coupe or new two door Avenger get in to the mix down the road.

Are you sure that wasn’t 28.4 Billion? 28,432 Billion is actually 28 Trillion. Our flippin deficit isn’t even close to that much!!

Decimal points aside, I think this looks like a slick car and will be a great competitor to the Accord coupe. Too many manufacturers focus on only their 4-door sedan and don’t bother getting into the 2-door coupe market. All they do is keep most everything the same, aside from using two large doors instead of 4. Gets the younger crowd into the showrooms. They need more room than a Civic offers, but still want to look sporty. Mazda should have done that with the 6, and I have no idea what Toyota was thinking with the Solara. That thing was, uh, too different.

I like this Altima coupe.

Are they trying to make everything look like the G35? Funny how it’s ok for Nissan, Audi, etc. to make several different versions of the same car (at least in terms of looks), but if any of the domestic manufacturers do something like this, they get thumped hard for it by the media & the consumers. Nice double standard.
