Most of people here complain about Volvo as too boring, expansive to maintain, upscaled, overpriced…bla. bla, bla…well…it’s not volvo problem…it’s you guys that u r not enough successful and finacially established to efford one (maybe you just chose a car that is bigger than your home budget allows). Volvo has always been targeting a specific gruop of people – well educated, well established, paying attention to european style, somewhat conservative…people who ACTUALLY make $, in other words… sort of SNOBS.
I always tresured Volvo design for being simply elegant without showing off factor (like BMWs for instance), it emphasizes my social and finacial status, it’s very attractive but no more attractive than the owner.

Looks better than before, S80 ish front end looks nicer than before, but that’s about it, doesn’t too much for me, but might still be a good car, the last one was

It’s all anecdotal, isn’t it? We have a ’99 V70AWD and we wouldn’t have another Volvo. The car was such a hangar queen for its first two or three years, we considered dumping it before it was paid for. Now it’s sort of settled down but routine maintenance remains VERY expensive, even though we don’t go to the dealer anymore.

These cars are riding on a brand perceptions that were planted 30 or 40 years ago. They’re overengineered, overpriced, and over-finicky.

Definitely looking at the Lambdas when they appear.

eam3, i have a s60r and it is great…you should go for it! but sometimes it feels like a regular s60. when i’m on the city i don’t feel any diff from my friends s60, but on the road…its really 300hp

It is an old persons car. Yuppies eat these things up like cookies even when the buying public knows they are shit. Whay can’t Ford and Volvo building something along the lines of Cadillac or Buick? Elegant, beautifully crafted, high quality machines.

These things are just ugly and I see them broken down all over the place. Just the other day, I had a brand new S60 catch fire at a Walmart parking lot. I talked to the guy and he said that he just turned the key and smoke started coming out from under the engine. He said he was really tired of his car being so unreliable and really wished he’d bought a GM instead.

Most ignorant statement I’ve read in a while. My wife drives a 2002 S60 T5 and I have a 2004 Acura TL 6 speed. The amount of money I have to shell out every time the glorified Accord has to go in for service (which is a lot more frequent than you would think) is absurd. The Volvo has been a) more reliable (believe it or not) and b) considerably less costly to maintain. I’m thinking of picking up a used S60R to replace my TL.

This site brings out three kinds of posters:
- horsepower freaks with no kids
- haters who will bash anything that’s not their brand
- actual enthusiasts with relevant things to offer

This Volvo news was sure to show us who’s who in the zoo, and sure enough, we’re off to a flying start!

There is a small but loyal group of people that think the V70/XC70 is a great and useful car. I have owned several, and they have all been trouble free, got good mileage, and had great resale. It needed a little more style, and this new design may be a little over the top, but at least Volvo is paying attention to this fine car.

Volvo’s have some of the most expensive maintainence in the business. I don’t see any reason to buy one of these over a superior new Lambda ute with better gas mileage, more space, better quality, superior reliability and bettere features and safety equipment.

Ugly in any color.
The rear bumper lights or reflectors were designed by a 5 year old. Just make a hole and stick it in there.
Why the Chinese, famous for copying other automarker’s designs, have never copied a Volvo? See pictures.

As a driver of the curent V70 i must say this is not quite as beautiful. while maybe the v70 isnt a striking car when you first see it if you own one you will notice the sutilties that make it beautiful. the current car is elegant and understated and will become a clasic. now having the version with 200hp i can say its a fun drivers car as well, many gti’s and onther sporty cars have inhaled my fumes on backroads as well as at th lights.

Hmmm.. not sure I like that the upper taillights and half the lower taillight cluster now swing open with the tailgate.. makes the rear look like the old Mitsubishi-styled V40 wagon! I actually thought there wouldn’t be another XC70 with the new generation, but now that I know they sell 3 XC70s to every V70 in the US, I guess there is no argument for dropping it!
