Spotted: LA-bound Giugiaro Mustang

11/16/2006, 9:13 AM

By admin

An Italian car enthusiast snapped a single photo of what appears to be the Giugiaro Mustang — a concept car due at the LA Auto Show later this month. The image appears on a number of online chat forums, including MustangForums. The car was designed by Fabrizio Giugiaro of ItalDesign fame.

According to the photographer, the front of the car is reminiscent of the 2009 Chevy Camaro. The car apparently has a glass roof that integrates with the windshield. According to a recent Ward’s Auto report, the car will be powered by “the most powerful Mustang engine developed so far.” Full image after the jump…

I love that rear quarter window. My biggest complaint about the latest Mustang is that window and how under scaled it looks to the rest of the glasshouse. I also like the way the back end has its surfaces broken up and appears bumperless.

This is a triumph; that Ferrari GG50 Giugiaro designed was a horrible.

“the front of the car is reminiscent of the 2009 Chevy Camaro.”

You mean the car that blatently ripped off the 2005 concept designs for the Mustang? Oh… okay.

By the way, amazing looking car.

Really nice looking design…what surprises me though is the rear wheel well arch gap between the tire. Looks like an SUV size gap. Nothing a simple suspension adjustment couldn’t fix though.

Agreed Phileas Fogg.
Remember when they started making the Camaro Concept there were videos of the mustang in the back of the shop they were taking styling Qs from the Mustang justlike they did in 66-67

They are preparing for the Camaro..
Nice looking thing, although I doubt Ford will build it.

Ford needs to build something like this with at least a 6.0 liter motor in it making at least 400hp BEFORE the Camaro and Challenger come out or they are going to loose most (if not all) of their Mustang sales to them..

they aregoing to lose some mustang sales anyways, I don’t think an incredibly powerful mustang will help sales much, just take sales from the GT 500

a 6.0 liter engine??? How about an all aluminum sub-4.5 liter V8 capable of producing at least 400hp?? That would sacrifice a lot of weight and add a lot of RPMs

Is Ford actually planning to have Giugiaro design the next Mustang? Isn’t that like having Frank Lloyd Wright redesign the White House? It would seem that an artist like Giugiaro wouldn’t want to have to adjust his work to incorporate retro elements from someone else’s 50-year-old design.

So does an insider have any view as if this is just a one-off customizer building a kit car or if this really has a shot at being the ‘09 Mustang?
