Spy video: Audi R8 in testing

08/23/2006, 7:59 AM

By admin

The spies at Brenda Priddy & Co have put together a new video of the 2007/2008 Audi R8 in testing in the United States. The car is expected to be officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in late September. These shots show the car with only mild camouflage along the side skits and front and rear facias, on the headlights, behind the doors, and between the taillights. The R8 is expected to be priced against the Aston Martin Vantage and BMW M6. In the video, hosted by StreetFire, viewers get a good idea of how the finished car will look on the road, plus a nice sampling of the engine’s sound. Video after the jump…

i want it.
one thing i realized is that those SUVs that follow the r8; driven by audi employees? american uglies.
i wish the q7 wasn’t so beat. i like the design but they should have left the kubelwagen (toureg) to VW.

Ugly, looks like a stretched out TT. I agree with Renton, the front end needs work.

I really hope VW doesn’t pull a “Ford” and destroy Lamborghini. I can’t say I am ecstatic about this R-8… I like it, but knowing how much it will cost, ehhh. I sure hope those lambo wheels are only for testing. But considering how finished that car looks… they couldn’t put a custom set on there????? As it is, the Gallardo is half assembled by Audi bin parts. And now an Audi, that has been caught with it’s hand in the Lambo jar. I like the car, but how about something that screams german engineering? This screams, ‘I’m the lillegitimate love-child of a Gallardo and A6!’

Right right right… it’s just a concept car, not in production yet, but when are they gonna get rid of that underbody black trim? It makes the car look disgustingly ugly. The more this car becomes production ready, the more I think it’s going to remain. I was just so hoping that they wouldn’t change the looks at all from the LeMans concept.

Anyways, car sounds great, and it seems like it goes like crazy.

has anyone noticed that there are lamborghini wheels on it? hhhmmm. i dont think that audi should use the lambo anything on this car. it needs to be origonal. not some rip-off lamborghini clone.

They are using Lambo wheels because it’s a test mule and don’t want people to see whatever new design they have cooked up for the release.

The main competitor is expected to be the Porsche 911.

Wow I’m starting to like this car! I didn’t like the front end that much but seeing even the camouflaged thing it looks georgeous!

The body styles not bad. It’ll be even better if they moved the front wheels forward by a couple of inches and moved the side vent off the door and more towards the rear wheels.

Sounds great, looks fast, but still so uninspired feeling. The LeMans concept was amazing, but this kind of looks, eh. Give me the DBRS9 from the other day.

seems like audi is afraid to make it anywhere as good as it can be for fear of cutting the lambo sales, everything just doesn’t seem as good as it should be, even if it’s meant to be a competitor of the 911 and vantage, it’s like they built it half-ass

This car will definitely be a hit for Audi. Competing with the AMV8 and the M6 is a tough call though. Definitely lacks the James Bond prestige of the Aston and the 500hp+ on tap certified by the M division. Once the final production is release the press will go crazy and a lot of people will warm up to it.

well this might be a good buy considered how exotic it is, you can find an audi dealesrship in every big cities. compared to aston martin and ferrari also lambo, it might be a better buy if you live in a secluded location. it does indeed looks akward but maybe once they removed all those masking things it will look hot. also i don’t know about you guys but german cars grows on my taste. i use to hate the new bmw 5 serie but now i love them. also the new 3 serie i still find it too camry like (beefy not bmw sleek) but when i see it in real life there are some crazy shapes and angles that makes a car looks superb.
