Spyker C8 Aileron to make North American debut at New York show

04/02/2009, 11:28 AM

By Drew Johnson

Following its world debut earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, Spyker has announced the production version of its C8 Aileron will make its North American debut at this month’s New York Auto Show. The C8 Aileron first appeared in concept-guise at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

Design-wise, the C8 Aileron is pure Spyker, combining an almost industrial look with sport and class. Up front the C8 Aileron features a wide-mouth grille, flanked by headlights sporting LED driving lights. Two circular vents highlight the side of the car with a ducktail spoiler topping the C8 Aileron’s aggressive rear-end.

Inside Spyker’s unique design style continues, feature rich looking leather and plenty of aluminum trim. Luxury items include a GPS navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and iPod integration.

Motivation for the C8 Aileron comes via an Audi-sourced 4.2L V8, producing 400 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent to the rear-wheels through either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, launching the C8 Aileron to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and onto a top speed of 187 mph.

Sales of the Spyker C8 Aileron are expected to kick off this summer, although no pricing has been released.

@WitchDoctor, they are not elegant exotics, but rather brash, and gruff exotics.

@ Lariat Lux, I think it’s more the fact that they use a combination of very rounded curves along with very harsh, sharp finishes… just doesn’t seem to work.

I think it’s also that you can’t build a brash car for the purposes of being a boulevard cruiser…

But then again, a Corvette is brash and it just works

Lariat, we’ll have to agree to disagree. I think Spykers are as elegant as it gets. They’re not the fastest, but I think they’ve got to be among the most stylish.
