Spyker launches C8 Laviolette LM85 in LA

11/20/2008, 12:35 AM

By Nick Aziz

Dutch automaker Spyker revealed its latest limited edition sports car at the Los Angeles auto show on Wednesday. The road-going C8 Laviolette LM85 is a mid-engine two-seater based on the C8 Laviolette GT2R race car. Production will be limited to just 24 units.

Built around a 4.2-liter Audi V8 powerplant, the LM85 delivers 400 horsepower in a lightweight package. Gear changes are accomplished by a manual six-speed Getrag gearbox, which sends power to the rear wheels via a Drexler limited slip differential. Behind the black powder coated wheels are AP Racing six-piston brake calipers.

Similarities to the GT2R are numerous, including the structural aluminium chassis, GT2 livery (Burnt Almond Orange with Gun Metal ‘S’ logo), side mirrors in Gun Metal, a carbon fibre rear spoiler, and GT2 windscreen streamer.

All 24 LM85 owners will be special guest during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 2009. Furthermore, a special Chronoswiss 24 Hours Pilot Watch is part of the offer. Pricing has not been publicly announced, but it will certainly be somewhere in the six-figure range.

Spyker is a wickedly off-kilter automobile brand whom I love.

That interior, especially that stick shift, always makes me giddy. Exquisite craftsmanship.

Spykers always seem a little under-powered in the modern supercar game, but boy-oh-boy do I love them!

Mr. Piston

I honestly didn’t like the C8 that much the first time I saw it, but now, I really like it. It grew on me, fast.
