Premium Dutch sports car manufacturer Spyker announced this morning that it plans to relocate its small assembly plant from Zeewolde, Netherlands, to Coventry in the United Kingdom to be closer to its contracting partner and supplier CPP Manufacturing Ltd.
The move will affect about 45 of Spyker’s 135 Dutch jobs, but Spyker says it will offer “a full social plan” prepared in conjunction with the its trade unions. Spkyer’s management and engineering teams will remain in the Netherlands, although the company says it is not ruling out future layoffs as it faces slipping demand for the high end cars.

“We realise that jobs will be affected in the Netherlands but we believe this move is necessary under the current economic circumstances and is in the best interest of the company and all of its stakeholders,†said Spyker CEO Victor R. Muller in a statement released to the media.
