SsangYong has officially unveiled a production-intent version of its C200 crossover at the Seoul Motor Show. The C200 should be one of the Korean automaker’s greenest models, with CO2 emissions said to be reduced by as much as 50 percent.
The C200 was first unveiled in concept form at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, with the latest version being more of a thinly veiled production model. Thanks to its Italian-penned design, the C200 will abandon SsangYong’s typical shark-nose styling, and will rival the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V in terms of size.
The C200 will ride on SsangYong ’s new monocoque platform, which should ensure car-like handling while also being adaptable enough to underpin front and all-wheel drive vehicles.
The production C200 will be offered in two guises: Aero and Eco. The Aero model will feature either an all-new 2.0L diesel powerplant – which will be compliant with Euro V emissions regulations — putting out 175 horsepower or a 1.8L gas engine. The Eco version of the C200 will feature a diesel-hybrid drivetrain, promising roughly double the fuel economy of a typical CUV. Buyers can opt for six-speed manual or automatic transmissions in both models.
No official launch date has been given for the C200, but SsangYong says work on the car is ahead of schedule, so we expect to see a launch later this year.

Are SsangYong’s finally going from horribly ugly to just ugly? I hope they ditch their current styling

Except for color schema and big blind spot it is not a bad looking vehicle from my point of view (or taste or lack of taste). It looks better to me then current RC-V and actually better then RAV-4. We don’t get it anyways

Nice to see the production version of the 2011 Saturn Vue.

It’s “not a bad looking vehicle” because it’s a blatant copy of the Audi Q5.

@Veda, check your facts. I believe the C200 was under development longer than the Q5. Of course since Q5 is simply a Q7 that lots a back seat and somewhat toned down, you can still argue the design is “Q7 inspired” … but not in any shape or form “a blatant Q5 rip”

Since “looks” are subjective term, I don’t see Q5 in this. This is a hatch, based on the slope of tailgate, Q5 is more of a wagon. The schnooze can be arguably inspired by Audi, but Mitsubishi cornered huge schnoze as well. In this world it’s hard to say who inspired whom. I am sure 7 series did not copy cheap Hyundai, but the outline of the trunk was the same in Bangle trunk and Hyundai (Hyundai was released first).

JakeK, I like it: SsangYong-Saturn. Or is that ‘So long Saturn’?
I see your guys are hanging on by a thread this morning for 8th. We clinched last night by the way… you know just in case you hadn’t read that.

Considering their past offerings this looks fairly good, but the interior is funky in a boring, ugly way.

This looks to me like a mini-Rendezvous.. kind of like what a Buick version of the new Equinox/Terrain might look like.

Yes LL, they have fairly recently filed for bankruptcy . Now they are working on restructuring and reestablishing themselves as a player in the S.Korean market.
