SsangYong has unveiled its latest concept car, a five-door crossover with proportions similar to the Scion xB. Formerly known as the Concept XUV 1 – which stood for Excellent User Interface Vehicle 1 – SsangYong now says the concept will bow as the XIV-1 (“eXciting user Interface Vehicle”).

The XIV-1’s exterior design is highlighted by a front windscreen that continues virtually uninterrupted into the car’s C-pillar.

The XIV-1 will feature a unique seating arrangement, which SsangYong calls 1+1+2 or 1+3. The automaker says the seating layout highlights the flexibility of its latest vehicle architecture.

Given its “eXciting user Interface Vehicle” name, the XIV-1 boasts the latest in automotive technology, with all major cabin functions controlled by mobile devices and smart instruments. The crossover also features coach-style doors to aid in cabin egress/ingress and a split rear liftgate.

SsangYong hinted that the XIV-1 concept will form the basis for its upcoming Rexton SUV replacement as the company targets growth in Europe and Asia.
